Before Celeste knew time and flown by and she had been talking with the Facebook stranger for over two hours. Even though they didn't talk about anything particularly meaningful, it wasn't a bad conversation.

He did ask quite a few questions about her and tried to direct the conversation more towards her than himself, but he didn't anything invasive that she was bothered to answer. The longer the conversation drew on, the more interested she was in knowing what the person she was talking to looked like.

Based upon his posts and manner of speaking, she imagined him to be a kindly looking man. Polite, thoughtful, and easy to talk to. Sadly however, his Facebook page was void of any pictures of himself no matter how far back she scrolled. He also didn't have much in the realm of personal information listed either. Where his name would've 'wouldn't you like to know' had been written instead followed by a smirking emoji.

Celeste had asked where he was from but the man vaguely responded that he was on the east but traveled a lot. Due to that, he didn't consider one state in particular to be his home. There was no reason for him to ask where she lived as her location was already set to New York curtesy of Jen.

He didn't give her a name to work with either. He simply told her that she could call him Lucifer if she needed a name. In exchange for this she said he could just call her Lessie. Her account handle was also created by Jen who said it needed to be something fun and void of her real name if she wanted to attract the attention of potential friends or suitors, whoever decided she was interesting.

Lucifer: Based upon your handle, should I assume you have a lot of dreams and ambitions?

Lessie: I used to. Now I mostly just spend most days trying to survive, haha. What about you?

Lucifer "Why only surviving? I thought dreams were supposed to help you thrive?

For myself, I don't exactly have a dream but can't say that I'm upset at where I am in life.

Lessie: Money and adult things, you know? My dreams aren't exactly gone. They're just put on the back burner to be revisited later on.

That was the best answer she could think to give to the other without divulging too much about what was going on in her personal life to a complete stranger. Even if he did seem to be a nice stranger, that didn't mean that it was safe to do so.

She shifted the pillow underneath her to a better position to help prop her arm up while she continued typing to the other. Even though she hadn't changed clothes, Celeste had crawled up onto the bed at some point during her texting conversation in order to find a more comfortable position to type in. Jen would've probably been so happy to hear that he usually reserved friend had made friends with a stranger. The next she had gotten from the other somewhat surprised her.

Lucifer: Is money the only obstacle between your dream? If so, I'd be certainly happy to help remove it. I don't think anyone should have to suffer through differing their dream for such things.

He had added a smiley face to the end of his message. Was this complete stranger really offering her money even though he hardly knew anything about her.

Lessie: I couldn't accept money from even thought it is a kind offer. It isn't exactly a bad thing, just gives me a chance to regroup and figure out how best to go about my dream at a later point in time. I'm too stubborn to give up on it anyways.

She added one of her favorite gifs that had a word resilient pasted over the front of it. It was of a stubborn dog trying to get an oversized stick through a space that was to narrow for it to fit through, but it still continued trying anyways.

She wondered if it wasn't a good choice though to post when the other didn't respond to it. Perhaps they didn't share the same sense of humor or understanding of such things. It was true that no one liked to have to differ their dreams. It wasn't like she had had much of a choice though. Unexpected things had happened in life to change her plans and all she could do was just float along with the current and wait for it to change for the better.

Lucifer had sent her another message but before she could look at it, three sharp knocks on the hotel room door caught her by surprise and drew her attention away from her phone. Her breath caught in her throat and tightness in her chest had returned. Silence followed the knocks and Celeste held her breath as she tried to remain as silent as possible.

She bit her bottom lip to the point of tasting blood when she saw the door knob jingle and the scratching on the other side that indicated someone was placing a key in the lock. Her heart skipped two beats before she heard the lock click indicating that whoever was trying to get inside had managed to unlock the door

Her mind told her it would be best to move some place safe, but her body was frozen with cold fear. Her limbs felt like dead weight that was holding her in place. Just when she needed it to work, her fight or flight system was failing her. Her throat was so tight that she didn't even think that she would've been able to scream even if she needed to.

Instead, she was petrified, clutching her phone as she stared helplessly at the door to the hotel room only able to sit and wait to see who was going to be on the other side once the door opened.
