The Two Newbie Adventurers; Times Passed (2)

(A Certain Group Of Newbie Adventurers' POV)

It's the next day. We thoroughly enjoyed our time inside the inn but both Bunpoku and I couldn't help but feel regret and sadness from leaving it.

We were given a bread as a free breakfast by the busty employee with a thick Pavella accent, but this didn't help us recover from our wounded hearts.

Honestly, both Bunpoku and I agreed that we could've stayed here for another night but we also need to earn money in order for us to have the capital to stay. It's one of those dilemmas that people with an unstable job have.

The bath is great, the food is great, even the beds are great. Everything's top class.

Food that good should cost way more than five silver coins or a silver coin! Aaah, sheesh. I'm gonna stay another night after we hit it big in this dungeon dive, and then I'm gonna come back to stay a third night after selling our loots. Aaah! I want to stay here everyday, all day.

On our way to the dungeon's entrance, Bunpoku almost fell into a pitfall because my [Detect Danger] didn't trigger fast enough.

"God friggin' damn it Yonpoku! Do your job properly! I was 'this' close from being skewered to death!" This dungeon is really true to its name. It immediately wanted to eliminate adventurers from the get go.

"I know, I know. My skill didn't trigger as fast so I wasn't able to stop you. Wait, let me go in front."

"You should've done that from the get go!"

With me on the lead, we finally reached the dungeon's entrance. Aren't I amazing? We didn't encounter any accident with me on the helm.

On our way down, I didn't notice that I stepped on a pressure plate.

*clunk*

However after waiting for a few seconds, nothing happened. Looks like that was just a prank or something.

"What didja step on just now, you idiot!?"

"I-I don't know man. There seems to be nothing to worry about!"

"But what if it's a trap!?"

"Nah, I don't think so." We had a full conversation going for a few seconds now, and nothing seems to be happening. Nothing's gonna happen, right?

Just went I thought that nothing would happen, the floor suddenly collapsed. Whoa, what the hell is happening!?

"I told you it's a trap, you dumb mofo! Why can't you do your job right!?" Just as I thought, this arrogant and careless brother of mine couldn't be trusted when it comes to scouting!

The stairs receded, turning the spiral staircase from before into something like a steep slope. To make matters worse, slippery liquid started pouring from the ceiling, making us lose our footing.

"Whooooah! God dammit, it's so slippery!" Whilst Iowa's screaming my lungs out, my brother, Bunpoku, was calmly observing the surroundings. That's why he noticed the shallow pit at the bottom of the previous staircase and I didn't.

Along with a splashing sound, I smelled a really bad odor that ravaged my nostrils. Even though I was still feeling dizzy, my body moved on its own and vomited everything that I ate for breakfast.

"Ugggh! What the heck's that smell!? This is so fuckin' pungent, it's not even funny!"

This is one of the reasons why I hate my nose. Aside from it not perfectly complimenting my very handsome face, its also the part of my body that enables me to smell stuff.

I tried to block the smell using my hands but it didn't work. In fact, I think that, even if the pungent air went through my mouth, I could still kinda smell the friggin' putrid sh** or whatever this is.

I stood up in a panic, looking for my brother, Bunpoku, but he was nowhere to be seen. With no other choice, I trudged on while holding my breath sometimes to avoid 'smelling' the pungent sh** entirely.

As I walked, I finally reached a branching road. Written at the wall right in front of me is a text saying, "If you're a newbie adventurer, the left path is for you. The power of the monsters in this path is enough to put your skills to the test without leading to death(depends)."

I don't know about you but that 'depends' is really bothering me so I looked at the other sign. This one is saying, "This path is wrought with danger and thrill, perfect for you thrill seekers out there who wanted to end their miserable lives in an epic battle. However, if you do managed to come out alive, you'll get a handsome reward. Note: This dungeon is perfect for higher ranked adventurers. The description at the top is for those idiotic newbies who think they're some hotshot."

The person who made this sign is really irritating. However, after seeing the text at the very bottom — before the insulting texts — I was immediately sold on the idea of entering this path.

It couldn't get any worse than this, right?

(Bunpoku's POV)

While we were falling down the slippery slope that was previously a staircase, I kept my calm, and observed the situation.

Yonpoku was squealing like a girl right now so he didn't notice the puddle that's emitting some pungent smell. I didn't know that admiring those cold beauties for so long could also benefit me in some way.

While holding onto the edge of the spiral slope, I waited for the right timing before jumping. My footing was off so I stumbled on the ground and broke my pinky finger from trying to balance myself before I fell onto the ground but, aside from some minor bruises and scratches, I was fine.

*SPLASH*

Looking at Yonpoku who fell onto the puddle of pungent liquid, I rolled my eyes and left immediately. He almost got me killed twice and I'm not gonna trust him another time.

Whilst I was walking, I saw that a few well-made statues of adventurer-looking men and women were standing near the walls while the whole place is lit by something like a magic light power tool. After a few more seconds of walk, I reached a branching road and, once I read the texts written on the wall, I walked towards the left path without any hesitation.

Getting some fighting experience and not dying is more valuable to me than getting some immediate gains.

(Yonpoku's POV)

Even though I wasn't really used to, and I couldn't get used to, the pungent smell, I stayed cool and slayed many goblins that are out of my way. I could feel it, I'm near a treasure.

Sure enough, after a few more meters of walk I saw a treasure chest.

"A chest!? I'm opening it!" Without even checking if there is a trap or whatever, I opened up the chest immediately.

"Alright, sweet. Is there any treaaaasure…? Come on now, treasure! Oooh! There's a mana potion in here!" This is worth a silver, I got something good!

I kept on advancing just like that. I didn't mind the many scars and wounds I got from continuously fighting goblins.

Most of my wounds was something that I got from those really strong goblins. Thankfully, I managed to slip into them and enter inside a small room after what felt like an hour long chase.

I seem to have taken a wrong turn somewhere, but I didn't mind it as what's in front of me is more important. In front of me, there's a sword on a pedestal.

"Is that the magic sword!?" I shouted out. I can't believe I found the Magic Sword me and Bunpoku initially wanted to look for before entering this dungeon. Looks like lady luck is on my side today.

I couldn't wait any longer so I immediately put my hand around the handle and pulled it. A few seconds later, my [Detect Danger] warned me of something but it was already too late.

I had already taken the sword out, unable to contain my excitement. I heard a loud thunk from under me, and then, I felt a floaty sensation. And that's all I could remember after my head bumped into something and I lost consciousness.

I woke up in a dark and damp place, and I couldn't move a single inch of my body. Each part of my body hurts, it feels like.

"What the heck… happened…? Bunpoku?" I called for my brother's name but he wasn't there. No one's there.

Looking up at the ceiling, I saw a faint light, but that's about it. It seems like a hole opened up right below me right after I pulled out the sword from the pedestal.

If I remember correctly, there was some other sound that I heard aside from that one that I heard when the covers hiding the hole opened.

I'm… trapped in here, aren't I? Because of my greed, I got into this mess.

I kept on thinking about where I did wrong, waiting for my body to heal up, even just a little bit.

Hours passed, and another, and another… A few days passed and, compared to what I experienced at the inn, this…

…This is hell.
