Shattered Dream

Evangeline had been dreaming about the cool gardens with a beautiful chinoiserie pavilion. She had been walking in the garden and was about to turn a corner when she heard the murmur of a familiar voice. She sped up. A smile spread over her face. It was Luan. He wore long-belted tunic and linen trousers.

He came toward Evangeline and took her in his arms. His eyes were shadowed, hooded with desire. His movements were slow as if they were both underwater. "How do you know I'm here?"

"I-" She broke off. "I don't know." Was all she said. She could not remember how she had found this garden, nor did she recall her destination. All she ever did was follow the scent of white roses thickened in the air.

The moonlight made his eyes intently blue. He drew her toward him, running his fingers through her hair. "I have something to tell you."
