Chapter 45: BREAKING IN

"Wait, don't go out just yet." Cautioning Natasha, she froze just as she reached out to open the door to the car.

"Why?"

I pulled out the keys, opening the driver's seat a little to make getting down more convenient "So that I can open the car and hold the door."

"What for? I am capable of doing that on my own." Her nose scrunched up, while her brows arched.

"Yeah, but to show that I am a gentleman...." Running my hand through my hair, I responded smugly. I might as well just pull my hair into a ponytail or a bun. My hair doesn't seem to understand the concept of a haircut and grows quickly. A part of me wanted to keep a low cut but I may be forced to leave it long after all.

She threw a knowing look my way: "Since when did you become a gentleman or care about chivalry."

"Why do you think New York City loves me?" With a plastered wide grin, I wiggled my brows. Tsk Tsk, I am loved for my all-round charm.

She shrugged, clearly a smart aleck"Your amazing hair and charming smile."

"Yes, but majorly because of my gentlemanly attributes."

"Fine"

She groaned in frustration, nevertheless the less allowed me to go out, circling to hold the door open. Stretching out my hands, I held hers in mine.

"Thank you for your nice gestures."

"Don't mention."

"Can we go now?"

"Yes, but we should try being super nice first." There are two guards currently inside. We'll only come across them when we pass through the front metal gates. Since that is the acceptable and legal way in then we would have to try that first.

"Oof, that must be hard for you." Clicking her tongue, she tugged on my shirt.

"Haha, I'll survive."

"What are you both doing here?" One of the guards noticed our figures standing outside and beckoned on us.

"Good day, I'm Jeremy and she's Natasha." Offering my hand for a shake, I made brief introductions. He had a stern look but I remained unfazed. Jeremy gets what Jeremy wants.

"Nice to meet you." Natasha tried with a friendly wave.

"OK, but that didn't answer my question." His deep voice matched his grim look.

"I graduated from this High school."

"That's cool I guess, did you come to see anybody because the school is not even in session."

It was Natasha repeating the same thing, except in a man's body and voice. Also, not Natasha.

"Not really. Life is not going well for me, everything is getting harder by the day. Then I came here to spend the holiday with my mom and decided to come back to where it all began." The only thing true about my sorry tale was that I came to visit my mum. Maybe, life might be getting harder but coming here can't fix that.

"Sorry man, I understand but I don't have the permission to let you or anyone else in. Anything can wrong, and if it is under my watch I'll get into trouble."

"Nothing will go wrong, I promise."

Snickering could be heard beside me but I ignored her, trying doll eyes and pouting. Of course, she wouldn't be joining me to curry favors. Especially after the library fiesta. To think I was here for her maximum entertainment.

"You can't rule it out as an impossibility."

"Maybe."

"So you see, I can't let you in to wander around."

"Please."

"I'm protecting my job."

"I understand."

"Hey, wait. I knew that face looked familiar." The other security guard came out to join the conversation. I knew my face could get me anywhere. Plus, the second guy seemed way nicer. Easier to grant favors.

"You know these two?" His colleague asked, surprised.

"Yes, my wife's fashion magazine. She gets a weekly copy."

"He makes the magazines?"

"No, he models for the magazines. She also does, don't you?" This one was for Natasha who has been quiet the entire time.

"Yeah, but...." She nodded, trailing off as though she felt uneasy. Making a mental note, I thought to ask her about it later.

"I'll let you both in on one condition."

Yes, I knew he would give in.

" Can I get an autograph addressed to my wife and a selfie with the both of you?"

"Sure."

"Where do you want us to sign?"

"Give me a sec."

"Right here, my favorite book."

"There you go."

"Done." I left an eligible signature addressed to him and his wife.

'Dear Katie and Roy, it's always nice to see another fan. Thank you for supporting my humble self. '

I passed it to Natasha who I presumed to have also written something nice. The look of joy on his face, made my insides tickle a little.

"You can go in."

"Thank you." Flashing my brightest and widest smile, I pulled Natasha along with me to go on

"You're welcome."

"Hey, don't let them go in that would be breaking the rules." The other guy who everyone had forgotten about tried stopping us but we went on regardless. I could hear Roy yelling at him to keep his voice down. Maybe fame does have its perks.

"For a second there I thought we would have to use the fence."

Natasha turned to speak to me as we walked down the hallway. I guess she found her voice?

"Breaking in wouldn't be necessary today."

"Not when you have Jeremy Heath right by your side."

"How useful."

"Don't mention it."

"Where are we going first?"

"The wall of legends."

"Legends?"

"Yeah, people like me who were legendary enough to graduate as the valedictorian."

"Basically a way of displaying all past valedictorian. So that in the future, you can come back and use it to rub your ego. "Awwwnn."

"I detect sarcasm but would let it slide."

We went from classes to laboratories, cafeteria, gym and eventually found our way back to the parking lot. It was already dusk but my day was well spent. What a tour it turned out to be. I turned out to be a great tour guide, if I say so myself. Natasha was also a great company I couldn't overlook.

The truce we made in the library was impending anyway. Sort of like a new beginning, at least with the person I live with. Nothing much but me focusing on the good aspects of life.
