A Lazy Life

"Moon is fine," she smiled and watched him rowed closer to the middle of the river.

She watched Clete stuck a worm onto the hook and tossed it into the water. The man held the fishing pole and leaned back with a foot against the edge of the boat and his other leg crossing over a knee. The sound of the boat rocking against the river, was soft and calming. The sun warming them from above felt nice.

She closed her eyes and smiled.

This was nice. She could hear birds chirping and the sounds of crickets not too far away. While the Moon Goddess was in her own mind, Clete had been staring. Normally, any female he even looked at tend to want to jump his bones- mainly for his title, so it was nice knowing Moon was just sitting quietly with him.

'She definitely isn't from Rosemount,' he curled his lips, 'She didn't even recognize my name.'

His pink eyes looked at her outfit and hummed to himself. The females he knew rarely wore anything white due to it getting easily dirty. Her shoes were red and looked expensive from what he knew of shoes, thanks to his sisters. His eyes dragged back up to her face. Cloth covered the bottom of her face.

'What are you hiding?' Clete wondered.

No female he had meet in any of the cities ever covered any portion of their faces. They flaunted it with makeup and red lips. He wondered if Moon hid half her face because of a scar. Why else would someone wish to hide themselves?

"Sir Clete," the female pointed at his fishing pole, "Your fishing pole is making noises."

"Eh?"

Clete looked to see his fishing line was going to run out. He quickly grabbed his pole and reeled in what he caught. Moon watched amused as the man struggled and pulled the swimming fish toward them. She reached out to help by pulling on the fishing line, but Clete shouted to stop her.

"Don't! You'd get hurt that way!" The green haired man gritted his teeth and with one last thrust back of his arm, the fish flew out of the water.

He was huffing and panting from using his energy with this fish. He'd never had to work so hard before! Looking at the huge catfish inside the boat, his pink eyes widened in surprised. He had never caught a fish so big before!

"You must be my lucky charm, Miss Moon! Look at this baby!"

Picking the fish up, he observed it for a moment. He stared at the gaping mouth and twitching whiskers. Smiling, Clete brought it back into the water and waved it goodbye.

"You do not eat them?" The Moon Goddess watched the fish swam away back into the safety of its water.

"I don't really eat fish," Clete informed with a shrug, "I like fruits more. Oh, speaking of…"

The man went to the corner of the boat and reached into the bag to pulled out an apple. Handing it to her, she saw his small smile.

"You must be hungry. I see you didn't bring anything for your journey. Go on, you can eat it."

"You are kind, Sir Clete," the Moon Goddess smiled, "I will save it for later."

"Mm," he nodded before letting out a laugh and shaking out his arms, "That was tiring."

"It was entertaining," Moon laughed and he let out an amused pout.

"Hey! I am sure it would be entertaining if you were the one catching the fish."

"I do not know how."

"…"

"…"

"Really? Let me teach you!"

So for the next hour, Clete taught her how to add the bait to the hook, move the lure lightly in the water every so often, and wait patiently for the line to start pulling. She tossed the line into the water, but it was not far enough. She did it again and heard the laughter from Clete.

She tried again and caught his pant. It only caused both of them to start laughing.

"Here," the pink eyed man calmed his laughter, "Hold it like this and use this motion."

Arms wrapped around her to hold her hands. They twisted and then flicked the line into the air. Her eyes brightened seeing she made her mark. Sitting and holding the fishing pole, she was excited to see what she would catch. The hand around hers pulled away, but the arms stayed wrapped around her. She was about to ask why Clete was not removing himself from her, but she caught the light snores to her back.

"Hm, to live a lazy life of fishing," she said quietly with a smile, "How lovely."

Her brother's light was beginning to set bringing forth colors into the sky. Her eyes watched to white clouds doused in oranges and pinks moving gently across the vast sky. The sparkles in the water made the river's surface looked like diamonds were hidden beneath.

Too busy staring at it, she didn't realize her fishing line was being pulled until she jerked forward. Heart racing, she quickly tried to pull the hook back and winded up the line. Doing those movements over and over, Clete was jostled awake. Rubbing his eyes, his arms slipped from the female as she stood.

Blinking in the clarity, the fisherman was faced with the butt of Moon and he quickly pulled back red in the face. Did she doe that on purpose and why-

"Sir Clete, please help!" She cried as she felt herself being dragged forward.

Arms wrapped around her again as hands helped her pull whatever she caught. The fish was nearing them and they could see the white scales from how close the fish was to the surface. However, just when they thought they had it, the line broke causing them to fall back into the boat.

They laid there, staring up at the sky with Moon lying on top of Clete. Chest heaving and eyes wide, Moon began laughing. Then, Clete joined in.
