Not a chapter today, as I said last week I finish my day at 8 am, so I don't have time to write on Wednesdays. As such, I decided to start a little QnA as I read quite a few questions in the comments. I don't know if I will do this every week, but I will do it for now.
1: What does Edward look like?
Well, I have to admit, I thought I described him in the first chapters, but it seems I forgot. Since I'm quite a few chapters ahead for my Patréon, his appearance will only appear in 20-30 chapters. But I can't have you wait for so long, so I will respond here.
Edward is tall and lean, without much flesh on his bones. Picking up martial arts allowed him to get a little bigger, but at this point in the story not by much. He has blue eyes and short dirty blond hair, and he still has a bit of a younger man's vibe to him.
If you want a reference, Newt Scamander from Fantastic Beast looks a bit like him at the start of the story, except with a slightly different hair color and no freckles. As the story goes on though, his features get sharper and more mature, and more serious.
2: Will he create his own company? Will he join someone else's?
I can't clearly answer this question as it would be simply spoil, but what I can tell you is that you should receive your answer in the coming chapters.
3: What is Edward's Power System? How does Chi work in this Universe? Who is talented?
Chi exists in both Marvel and DC, and in both is the energy of life. Vital Energy. In DC, very few people use it, Dragon was the only one I found who used Chi, using his Dragon Fang, but even there it was rather subtle.
Chi in Marvel is much more widespread though, especially with the Iron Fist. The Iron Fist is one of the Immortal Weapons, the champions from the Seven Capital Cities of Heaven… well, they all use Chi in different ways. But what is less known as that there are many others who use Chi, like Miles Morales. The only thing is, it is called Bioelectricity. Miles' Venom Blast is a blast of Chi. For proof: https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Glossary:Bioelectricity.
Now, mixing the two Universes meant changing some characters. Martial Artists in DC don't master Chi because in their universe it isn't much of a thing, but now that they share their universe with Marvel it has suddenly become one, and I can't pretend legendary martial artists did not learn a thing about Chi. I was asked about Lady Shiva and her daughter, Cassandra Cain.
Lady Shiva is a great example as yes, she does exist, and you will even get to see her very soon, or right now if you go to Patréon, and she does have Chi. Still, I couldn't just change the power levels and make every martial artist ten times stronger than they used to be just to make Chi believable. Hence, came the human limit, a limit no one ever managed to cross, so while martial artists do cultivate Chi, they can't become OP.
Also, to quickly answer the question of who is more talented than who… Lady Shiva and Dragon are about the same level. Cassandra Cain is probably above, I don't know enough about her but if she does appears it will only be much later on. As for Edward, he is very talented, but there isn't really any meaning in comparing his raw talent in martial arts with others as he has something unique, Chi Sense. And this, brings me to my final point, Edward's power system.
The basic idea was to use One Piece's Haki system. However, Edward isn't a reincarnator, so I couldn't just use Haki, and had to use something else. That's where Chi comes in. The basic idea was to have Edward's Chi act as his Armament Haki, and his Chi Sense as Observation Haki. However, bringing in the human limit and other future changes… Although the three forms of Haki, Edward is veering toward cultivation.
Now, I know that for many cultivation in Marvel, or in any fanfic for that matters, is a red flag. It's overused and predictable. However, I promise you here that while Edward will cultivate, it will be different from the cultivation of other novels. While I may use the basic cultivation realms, each one will work in a particular way and will make as much sense as it possibly can. Also, Edward will be the only cultivator, so there won't be such things as bypassing ten cultivation realms to defeat an opponent…
Here, cultivation is a way to become stronger, and that's it. Hence, it will be Edward's main power system.
However, Edward will not only rely on Chi, but also on Magic. Fusing magic from DC and Marvel was much easier than Chi, and Edward will be part Sorcerer.
I hope I did not disappoint too many of you with my answer, I know cultivation is not popular, but if you make the effort to stick with the story I am sure you won't be disappointed.
I don't think there were any more questions, not ones I can answer at least, so I think I will end the QnA here. If there are enough questions by next week and I have the time, then I may do another one. Only now do I realize it takes quite some time to answer those questions too…
To finish, I would like to thank you all for your support, obviously my 7 Patrons on Patréon who are of a huge help, especially Alhron Ello, who took the most expensive tier to get 20 chapters in advance.
But I also want to thank everyone who gave me their power stones, added this to their library, and the few who left a review… And well, everyone who reads my story. Hopefully, there will still be a few of you left after this QnA, and you will grow in numbers in the future.
