"Wait a second! Are you joking?!" I yell letting my confusion be known.
"Ya surprised young boy? I was wondering if ya would even remember me!"
"I'm just so confused…"
"Haha! Just like how you were confused after I punched you right in the gut! Remember that?!" He taunts me.
Of course, I remember it, that's why I don't get it…
"I remember the night quite clearly like how you were trying to sell that stuff to that girl. I just had to step in and teach you a lesson!" He blurts out.
"And after I did you laid on the ground rolling around in pain you were truly just trash. You remember that!?" He continues.
I guess so far I haven't really met many people that I would personally say is my enemy. Maybe Sara, Evil me, and maybe Ren but after that, there really isn't anyone else I could think of.
So why the hell is some old drunk guy trying to take the role of my evil villain!?
"This is so lame!" I say annoyed.
"Huh?" He returns confused.
I appeared next to the old man in only a few moments punching him in the gut in the process. The man flies to the corner of the slight elevation we're on.
"See payback, sure it felt great but come on now what?" I say holding my wrist.
The old man takes a minute to get up when he does he pulls out his sword with one hand and the other hand covering his chest.
"I guess you really want to die that bad huh? Better get ready." He says trying to breathe.
"Ehh better than you explaining for 10 minutes why you sided with a bunch of goblins." I say truthfully.
Speaking of the goblins, they seem to be leaving me and mister old drunk guy alone. Well, they're distracted with a little something anyway.
I decided to take out my sword and once I do the old guy charged at me with terrifying speed. Well terrifying speed for an old guy. I'm able to simply hit his sword away and attack with my own.
But surprisingly he's able to block my faster than normal swing so once again I swing at him but he blocks it. I wonder how far I could take this.
I decided to pick up the pace until it becomes an incredible speed. The speed of my swings even surprises me as I've never gotten to do this before.
The wind created from me moving so fast is incredibly immense. It's hard to even keep my eyes open to figure out where I'm swinging. The moment I figure out a place to swing it feels like I need to pick another one already.
With this intense attack, it looks like the old guy has gone full defensive and is successfully defending. If I really wanted to I could be aiming at anything but his sword but that's not really the point.
"Crack" Metal breaking is heard throughout the air.
My attacks stopped in an instant. Figuring out where the noise came from wasn't hard. Looking down at my sword reveals half of it missing.
Whoops.
Feeling a sharp pain in my stomach I notice the old guy kicking me. He kicks me so hard I fly back hitting one tree.
"Ouch," I say, flying back further than I thought.
Make it two trees.
"You might be insanely strong and fast but that's all there is. You have no stance, nor technique. You thrash your sword like a bat and expect to win?!" The old man says in the distance.
Well, seeing as I feel fine I guess a technique isn't really necessary. Also, how is it a technique to kick someone into a tree?! Well I mean he broke my sword so I guess there's some merit behind it.
Damn, I really broke my first sword. I even named it too! I'm sorry, Nova. I promise to give you a proper resting place. Which will most likely just be the bottom drawer of my cabinet…
Well guess in that case I guess I can move on to my other fighting style. I let go of my sword and raise my palm in the direction of the old man.
"Magic? You're joking right?" The old man says.
I wonder what I should start with. Guess it doesn't really matter as long as it doesn't kill the guy.
Water suddenly appears from my hand and projects itself towards the old man. Seeing the water the old man slices it in half. Wanting to see how he interacts with other magic I use all that I know on him.
"What on earth is going on?" He says confused
He's able to block all the magic I know. Not bad. Guess I'll just pelt him with all of them at once. The barrage of small casts continually gets blocked, dodged, and sliced.
Spending more time on a massive wall of spells also has very little effect. His ability to counter this is very commendable.
"Hey dumbass! You're gonna run out of mana at this rate!" He yells at me.
Ohh right, great reminder!
Using the skill mana creation I make a circle next to me continuously removing my mana and right above using mana consumption to take it right away. With this, I'll be getting an infinite source of mana.
Now normally this process would actually be a net negative but because of my other skill, MP efficiency I'm actually able to have a small positive amount of mana come back to me.
With a constant stream of mana coming into me, I have no problem battering him with more spells.
The spells around me double and then double again. The sheer amount of them must be terrifying.
"Wa-Wait!" Before I'm able to do anything with them the man speaks.
"Uh- yea- yea?" I responded with confusion.
"I surrender! Please, I beg you!" He begs
Oh, I guess it was more terrifying than I thought it was.
"Uh? Oh uh yea sure. Why not we're done here anyway." I say realizing the situation we were in.
With a snap of my fingers, the hundreds of magic elements hovering just above me disappear. And so does the infinite loop I had going on. There was no reason to snap, by the way. Just thought it would look cool.
Looking around it seems the village has been taken care of. The randomly laid-out bodies of dead goblins made me sure of that.
I walk over to the kneeling old man. He seems really messed up. It does in a weird way make me feel good seeing him in such a tuff state but then again I'm even happier I didn't kill the guy.
"The only problem is if killing you is part of the quest," I say more deadly than normal.
"Nope, we're good. Not like I would have anyway." I say mentally thanking god.
After putting my hands behind my back I turn away from the man and walk away. Just then a familiar face appears next to me.
"You just gonna leave that guy there?" A familiar cat girl asks.
"You just gonna let those goblins flee?" I responded.
"Ahh, what did you see?! Look there were too many of them and when they saw me they just all ran in different directions!" She says trying to explain herself.
"Well it's fine we still completed the quest. It doesn't matter." I let out.
"Really?! Well, whaddya get?!" She asks.
"Hmm? Well uh, nothing so far. It hasn't given me a new quest either so I'll probably get it when I wake up tomorrow or something. Wouldn't be the first time"
"Hmm, I see…"
Just before Mara and I leave the village, the old man speaks up.
"So is that it, you're just going to leave me here?"
Geez, I still gotta talk to this guy?
"Look sure I might have disliked you and teaming up with a bunch of goblins isn't really cool either but you're not really that important anymore," I say and Mara gives an affirmative nod.
"Hah, well should've thought so…" The old guy says as he lays back down.
Once again turning my back to the old man we leave the village. Instead of racing through the forest me and Mara take a simple walk and once we finally return back to the fields I lie down the nearby hill.
Next to me, Mara does the same.
"It's a full moon tonight ya know," Mara says as she lays down.
It doesn't take long for Kira to find us and watch the sight as well between us.
And for a moment I just lay down and enjoy the view. I didn't lay down because I was tired or anything. That old guy couldn't even make me break a sweat if he wanted to.
No, I decided to take this moment to let my victory sink in. Sure it might have been a small quest but it was a quest nonetheless. Even though it took a month to get to this point I doubt we even needed to wait that long.
"Hey, Mara? Wasn't there something you wanted to tell me?"
It kinda bugged me Mara had said she wanted to tell me something but instead just gave me this cloak.
"Oh right! Well um… Well before that how about you tell me more about where you came from." She says changing the conversation.
"Well if you really wanna know it was basically like a futuristic and more boring version of this world," I say not really caring.
"Why was it boring?" Mara asks caring way too much.
"Ahh well, we didn't have magic or goblins or even hybrids like yourself," I explain.
"Oh..."
"Yea the best we could imitate it on a screen."
"You could?" She questions.
"Well, kinda it was much more basic than your world since it was made by other people but they still were able to make it fun."
"Sounds pretty futuristic."
"Oh definitely. Compared to now I would say we were about 600, maybe 700 years more advanced?"
"Really?!" Mara says in shock.
"Oh sure. Electricity helped us power things like Computers which were used for calculating insanely complicated things and put into Cars which we used to travel triple the speed of horses. The technology we had was kinda insane."
I bring my hand up covering the moon and close my hand.
"But I guess that's gone now."
"I'm sorry…" I hear Mara say
Whoops, I guess I was stuck at the moment.
"Ahh sorry it's not like I want to go back or anything it's just I was caught up in the moment" I try to explain.
"I see"
Ahh man, maybe I was too passionate about that.
Yikes, I'm still bad at this whole talking thing huh? Well I mean thanks to Mara Im getting better at it but that doesn't mean I feel bad for making her deal with me.
"Akari?" I hear Mara say my name.
Oh, right I forgot this was about seeing what Mara wanted.
"Yes?"
"Well you see, I think I'm finally ready to confess something ."
Is this the part where she says I'm the weirdest, worst guy ever or when she confesses her love to me? It's fifty-fifty.
"I just wanted to confess," She stumbles out.
Damn, is she that scared of me? Was the head pats too far? You see this is what I'm talking about I have no idea what this person is going to do ne-
"My love for you," She finishes saying.
