I hate my brother.
I can't believe I had to explain to Rudy that Akari was fine and I was fine and that, yes, she could leave we weren't in danger.
I curl tighter into my blankets, trying to hide from the cold.
It's way too late for me to be up but for some reason, there's this nagging feeling. Like an itching in my brain.
My chest just feels heavy for some reason. Like, I feel like I should be regretting something major.
I sigh and kick off my covers—no use in laying here if I'm not gonna sleep. I'd just be wasting time that could be spent, I dunno, doing something.
I pad over to my desk and slide out the platform they have for extra space. There are Marrisa's notes.
I lean onto my desk and pop up my head with my hand. My free hand runs over the cover of the book.
Its kinda stupid most times, I mean, I was so stubborn. I was such a bitch, they were trying to help me and I just, never listened.
And, Sara, I failed her, I was supposed to help her, and I didn't.
Sounds like me.
The moment I feel a tear roll down my face I wipe it and push the platform back.
My obsession with magic has blinded me, but,
I open my closet and crouch down to where my old boots sit. I pull a dagger out of each boot.
Rejecting this world made me deaf.
I rub the handles with my thumbs and close my eyes.
I don't want to choose one or the other, I want parts of both. The blade in my right hand is reliable, I know how to swing around this blade with my eyes closed. The weight is comforting but deadly.
The blade in my left hand is my backup, if I'm left open I can come around with my left blade. But something Marrisa told me about double wielding was that, if you weren't in sync with both of your blades you were useless. You were weak, I don't want to be weak.
I stand and barely walk back to my bed, my eyes glazing over.
Metaphors about blades are so weird.
I put the blades under my pillow and this time when I close my eyes, I can feel sleep tugging the back of my brain.
—
I wake up late.
The first time I woke up late! I had to skip a bath and rush with my clothes! My hair is barely presentable, but I did it non the less.
Though, before I left my room, my chest felt heavy again, like, all of a sudden.
I grabbed my daggers from underneath my pillow. I moved to the closet and unclipped the holsters from my boots and clipped them around my thighs and put the daggers in their rightful place. When I smoothed down my skirt it's like they weren't there. Good.
The heavy feeling dispersed after I closed my dorm door.
Now I'm currently rushing down the halls trying to remember if today is a school day or a field day!
I think it's a field day...
"You're going to infect her with your poor people disease!"
Woah woah woah, I skid to a stop and walk back to one of the many many stairways where it leads directly up to the cafe.
I'm already late, what's a few more minutes, I'm just curious.
I climb the stairwell quickly and enter the cafe.
Rudy and Jade?
"You're so kazaking stupid! I'm gonna have to pray to the gods so I don't lose my own knowledge!"
Whaaat???
Jade gets up in Rudy's face, "You want to repeat yourself, underling?"
A smile appears on Rudy's face, and both of their friend groups back up.
"I would love to, though, I don't think you could hear me with all that dark magic clogging your ears."
Jade backs up slightly.
"How dare you!"
Rudy rolls her eyes and walks towards her friends. Though, at the same time Jade starts to mumble something, magic forming in her hand.
Oh fuck no.
"Jade! Cut it out, now!" the shout freezes Jade in her spot as I walk over to where the group has formed.
"First," I get right up to Jade. "Why aren't you in class?"
She looks a lot better than she did a minute ago. "Oh, class is canceled for our period, I don't know why"
Well looks like I wasn't late.
"Second, what was that about?"
Now she looks annoyed, angry even.
"Nothing, just this low life was talking about you, saying how you two were friends. But that's absolutely ridiculous!"
Excuse me?
"What? You two can't be friends."
Whoops guess this amount of bullshit made me lose my filter. I look over to Rudy, she looks angry but as she meets my eyes she shrugs and smiles.
What?!
I turn back to Jade, she's not gonna like this but fuck her.
"You can't tell me who I can and can't be friends with, if I remember correctly you didn't want to be friends with me! And, Rudy is my friend, one of my best friends! Me and her came from dirt poor towns! If you're gonna treat her like that, then you should treat me like that!"
I don't even care for her response as I walk over to Rudy and put my hand on her shoulder.
"Go hang somewhere with your friends, don't worry about her."
I can't believe shit like this exists. Rudy gives me a smile and a nod that I reciprocate and head out the way I came.
What to do now that I feel the need to punch someone in the face?
I head outside, there are a couple of people milling about in the gardens.
Though I'm headed towards the gate, it's slightly open, huh, weird.
I'm not gonna question it though.
I head out carefully and close the gate.
I'm immediately met with a path, there's a sort of force field around the wall path though. And outside the force field is a dense forest.
Reminds me of old times.
A smile forms on my face as I grab the daggers out of their sheaths and bounce off into the forest.
—
I sigh as I lean up against a tree, it feels so good to use hand-to-hand combat again.
The sun sets on the horizon and the clearing I'm in has an orange hue.
My stomach rumbles, ah fuck, I forgot to eat.
I'm tired anyways so I should head back anyways.
I stand from my not-very comfy seat on my ground.
Now, where's the school again? Around me is just forest so I guess ill have to get higher.
I climb up the tree I was sitting against, its kinda easy with the help of the branches and my daggers.
I end up on one of the highest branches, looking over all the other trees, the school standing tall in the near distance. It's near the sunset, alright, easy enough.
A strange noise appears above me. It sounds like a low repeating vooping noise. I stand on the branch trying to see what's going on.
A scream cuts out my thoughts.
Then, a guy appears in my face.
He falls into me as we both fly off the tree and land in the clearing.
I swear to celestia I fucking broke something.
I sit up groaning, god my chest and whole backside hurt!
"I'm so sorry! I made that portal in haste, I didn't mean to fall on you! Are you alright?"
I look up at the strange voice.
A guy, around my age with black braids framing his face, dark grey, almost black skin, dark red eyes, with dark horns protruding out of his forehead curling back. He has bushy black eyebrows which are curved up in worry.
"Yeah, I'm fine dude." I give him a smile
He's holding out his hand to me.
I take it and he carefully helps me up.
"Sorry, again, the names' Kenos!"
Kenos.
"You're fine, I accept your first apology, no need for a second one. I'm Ren."
His tail swishes back and forth, a demon. Huh, cool.
