My Power!

The collision created a heavy shockwave blowing both the beast and the boy meters apart while also generating an ear erupting sound that caused the retreat of countless animals.

While being flung into the air, Kevin performed a backflip landing on his feet but was still dragged back by the momentum.

Regaining his posture, his gaze between his now dim tattoo and the lightning that kept flickering around him.

'Is this magic?' he thought while closing and opening his hands as if he were a newborn.

He indeed felt empowered by the lightning but felt a bit awkward as though his body was not used to it. Pushing those thoughts aside, no matter the case, he now had the power to defend himself.

'With this might ju-'.

His thought process was disturbed by the sudden feeling of pain in his body. Collapsing on one knee, sweat dripped from his face as he began to sweat buckets. He felt as though his veins were about to explode due to the magic.

'I have to fight through it,' he inwardly encouraged himself. Fighting through the pain was much better in comparison to dying.

"Argh," Kevin let out a few grunts while trying to stand up.

He staggered a bit before standing all while giving the beast enough time to recover from the previous attack.

The beast looked angrier than ever wondering why Kevin won't die like all the other pests it has killed before.

Grabbing a small tree, the beast uprooted it and then snapped it. It held the lower part brandishing it as a blunt weapon.

' I guess with its nose it could smell the wood-like scent on the tree,'.

Kicking the ground, it launched itself towards Kevin while ferociously swinging the lower part of the tree. With his lightning abilities, Kevin was able to dodge the incoming attacks by the skin of his teeth. So far he could only utilize it to increase his speed, he would have loved to test its capabilities but now was not the time.

'At this rate, I am going to get worn out fast,' Kevin thought needing a strategy.

Leaping back, Kevin ran through the forest while being chased by the beast which carried murderous intent. In a fit of rage, it threw the broken tree at Kevin to stop his squirming.

Bam! Instead of hitting him, it crashed against another tree. Kevin managed to roll out of the way, now running straight to the beast at maximum speed.

Of course, through smell, it had perceived the boy's motion, preparing to greet him with a fist. With the added momentum from running, Kevin jumped into the air smashing his knee against its nose and also destroying its mask in the process. Its hideous face was now shown.

'There goes its sense of smell but damn it's ugly.' Kevin thought. His best way of defeating the monkey-like beast was by taking away its senses to perceive him, giving Kevin a chance to retreat.

Now that its nostrils have taken damage, the smell of blood will mask other scents confusing it. It was now near impossible to detect Kevin through smell.

Just as he expected, blood began to drip from its nose leaving him to rely purely on his hearing. Yet, the beast showed no signs of giving up bewildering Kevin.

'How bad does this thing want to kill me?' Kevin wondered but was abruptly disturbed by the pain he was feeling from the use of magic.

"AAARGH," he gave out a pained grunt, not knowing the beast had heard him.

Not expecting it, a giant hand flew across sending him flying into a nearby tree.

Kevin faces out a cry followed by drops of blood from its head. Quickly moving out of the way, he dodged an incoming projectile which was a rock thrown by the beast.

Dashing toward Kevin based on the noises it was hearing, it held its two arms in the air proceeding to smash the ground.

'Shit!' Kevin inwardly cursed, dodging with a backflip followed by a punch to the beast's stomach.

Bam! With the aid of his lightning abilities, the punch went through hurting the beast. The beast was stunned not expecting Kevin's attack to phase it, while on the other hand using the opportunity Kevin kept rapidly striking its chest ending the streak with a kick and knocking the beast back.

'Looks like I can finally hurt it. The lightning not only increases my speed but strength,' Thanks to the lightning he may survive but the pain that comes along with it was unbearable.

' I have to finish this now,' Kevin thought while gritting his teeth.

Not knowing the beast shared the same thoughts, wanting to finish this as fast as possible.

'This 'magic'...I can feel it throughout my body. What if I can concentrate it on a single area?'

As he thought, he could concentrate his power through his body sending it to one place, his hands.

Zzzzz! Lightning began to engulf his right hand almost like the sparks of electricity on faulty equipment.

Looking straight ahead, he ran towards the beast, wanting to finish it in one last attack. Having the same train of thoughts, the beast ran to Kevin preparing a heavy punch that could easily shatter even the thickest of trees.

"AAARGH!" Kevin shouted as he drew nearer.

They both met in the middle, bearing all their hopes on this last attack.

Zzzzz...zzz...z..! Unexpectedly, Kevin's lightning suddenly deactivated without any prior warnings.

"Oh crap!" Kevin cursed aloud as a fist collided with his body sending him flying through many trees and clearing a vast portion of the forest.

Finally stopping, he lay on the ground with blood gushing out of his mouth covering his face in a red pigment.

' I guess I die here,' Kevin thought in pity of himself as he heard the sound of the beast walking toward him preparing to kill him.

Swoosh! A high-speed arrow flew through the forest, penetrating the head of the beast and depriving it of its life. Before Kevin lost consciousness, he saw a female figure with white hair, and red eyes wearing a black coat.

"Are you okay?" she said in an angelic voice.

'How funny. Are angels supposed to ask stupidly obvious questions?' he thought before he fainted on the cold, snowy grounds.
