At this moment, and despite them having the upper hand in numbers from the beginning, it looked like vampires were throwing themselves against the meat grinder.
No matter how many they sent, none returned alive. From the original one hundred vampires, only ten remained standing now around her.
Just in the past five minutes, and for them to kill all the remaining wolves on her side, they lost over thirty-five vampires.
For James, this loss was simply a disaster.
"As long as I'll have your head in the end, none of this will matter," James said while trying to forget the pain of losing such a large number of elite forces in one battle.
After all he was after the head of the famous Ravner pack. As long as he would return in triumph with her head, he would be treated like a king.
Anna wanted to retort back, wanted to howl and jump at his neck. However, away from the fact that she stood all alone in the middle of this tight circle of ten vampires; she was already too exhausted to even stand straight.
Her black hair was already stained all red from her many wounds. Her eyes were now acting tricky over her. She struggled to just keep them wide open.
And gradually her vision started to become cloudy. Even sounds coming from around began to become vague. Her senses grew dull over time, while she knew the end result deep down her soul.
She was going to fall here! She did what she could, she fought this bravely till the end.
But the end for her still remained bitter. She wanted some other end for this fight. She wanted to have revenge, to taste the blood of those who killed her parents.
She wanted to clench her jaws over the neck of James and that vampire standing next to him. Even in the middle of all this, despite her vision becoming clouded with pain and exhaustion; she could still see these two faces clearly.
It looked like fate decided to give her one last chance, one shot before she would fall on the ground and die. She felt deep resentment about such fate. 'Why should I be the one to fall here?' she asked herself this.
She wanted justice! She wanted her enemies, those killers from years ago to be the ones to fall. She wanted to return to her pack while dragging their heads and throw their hacked bodies in front of the elders.
She wanted to return and perform a cleaning for her pack! She knew even by killing these vampires here, justice wouldn't be served.
Her parents weren't killed by vampires alone, but with the help of werewolves as well. Her parents died at the hands of the elder council and their minions in the pack.
Including that distasteful and treacherous butler!
But no matter how hard she tried, her body refused to even budge an inch. She barely kept her body standing while her body kept shivering out of blood loss and fatigue.
"She isn't good for anything," the killer vampire turned to James before adding, "even if we didn't do anything, this clown acting as an alpha will fall and die."
"Hahaha, yeah you got a point here," James seemed to be having his fun while he totally got over his bitter loss, "in fact waiting and watching her die like this seems fun, but we have no time to waste. Her pack will send out reinforcements no matter how our men there did. Let's kill her boys and return with her head as the biggest trophy."
The eyes of all the vampires turned vicious and shone in red light at this moment. However…
"Screw you!"
"Boom!"
Just before any of them could move a single muscle, someone suddenly screamed. This shout came from high above the ground, making everyone raise their heads towards the sky.
The sun was already shining brightly in the sky. Only a few dark clouds scattered alongside the sun. however at this moment a new dark spot appeared there.
And before anyone could react, this shadow landed heavily on the ground, creating a loud bang like a meteorite just slammed on the ground.
A cloud of dust appeared at this moment, covering Anna alongside that new person.
"Sniff... He is... a human?!" James sniffed the air for the scent of the blood of the newcomer. His face showed doubt while turning to look at the other vampires around.
He couldn't believe his senses, and yet it was a human.
It was Ji Hoon!
In the middle of the dust cloud, Ji Hoon landed leaning on one leg while touching the ground with his hand. His face showed his utmost rage and unbelievable resolve to save Anna.
Just as he stood up, all he could see through the thick dust particles was the shadow of something.
Something that was no way to be a human!
"Woosh!"
Just as he stood there in doubt, the air suddenly cleared away. It all came from Anna's body, who felt the scent of Ji Hoon just next to her and that drove the last ounce of strength in her out.
"You..." Ji Hoon stood in his place totally shocked by what he just saw.
"What... brought you here?" She couldn't help but heavily speak with struggle. "Run... Run for your life, idiot!"
In the middle of the vampires surrounding the injured alpha, a human stood in front of the deeply wounded, and on the verge of collapse, a wolf.
At this moment, and as Ji Hoon
looked at the werewolf form of Anna, he felt a strange storm of power gushing
out from the depth of his soul. It was like he held it there all this time, but
he never realized he had such strength before.
His soul shook, like never before!
And as he felt it, things started
to change in his eyes.
He wasn't seeing a terrifying scene
of a big black wolf with a body covered in long and deep wounds, and hair
stained in bright red.
In his eyes, and at this special
moment, all he could see was a frightened little girl standing all alone in
in front of such bloodthirsty and brutal men.
In his eyes, she was in her true
form, a small and weak girl feeling lonely amidst such harsh world... A girl
who needed his help and support to survive!
For him, she wasn't, anymore, weird
or peculiar like the first moment he spotted her. She was simply special. He
didn't feel offended by her look. In fact, he felt sympathy and deep pain
towards her.
Pain that slowly started to turn
into rage, a fuel that unlocked strength beyond his imagination.
"Just... Go..." Anna was
already exerting her last ounce of strength to push him away towards safety.
Her mind wasn't in the normal condition to realize how weird what she was doing
right now.
And how weird it was for a human to
land in front of her, in the middle of all these deadly vampires, to fall from
such height and in such a way without getting his soul crushed out of fear or
his body smashed from the fall.
"You... Just stay here... I'm going
to save you" Ji Hoon promised in a sincere tone. He, truly, didn't know what he
was doing or saying. He only knew he wanted to save her, and he would do anything
to achieve that.
"..." At this moment Anna was already out of her power. She couldn't even stand straight and her body started to sway left and right.
But before she could fall on the ground, someone moved and held her body. She could feel a strange warmth coming from this person, warmth that made her disturbed heart finally get a break.
She slowly opened her eyes and all she could see was the face of Ji Hoon. He looked strong and mighty to her, as if he was someone else from the person she knew before.
"You..." she only said that before she closed her eyes and her body turned loose.
Seeing this made Ji Hoon's heart crumble into pieces. His pain, the pain that assaulted his heart and chest, was something like anything he felt before.
It was a pain to his soul, not coming from outside but it was like originating from inside.
It was like his soul had a deep and old wound, one that was falsely healed ages ago and now... it reopened again.
"Hahaha, I never thought she would love a human, hahaha," at this moment the filthy voice of James came to jolt Ji Hoon and bring him back to his senses.
"Stay here for now," Ji Hoon slowly let Anna's powerless body lean on the ground before he stood up straight and gazed upon the ten vampires around.
In normal situations, and if a human ever met a single vampire in such a deadly fight, that human would feel irresistible fear and many would wet themselves.
But strangely enough, Ji Hoon didn't feel any of this. He stood firm in his place while putting Anna's body behind him.
In his eyes all he could see were enemies he needed to kill. In his eyes he felt an urge to kill... for the first time in his life.
And the scary thing was that he never felt like this ever before.
And the scariest thing was that he didn't feel any guilt about doing that... for her!
