Fiona went back to the school because she indeed forgot something. Well, not something but rather, someone. She was supposed to meet Kenji by the school gates after classes. And she forgot about the whole thing.
She hurriedly ran towards the school gates to find Kenji leaning against the wall, checking his phone. He looked up and smiled at her.
"I'm guessing you forgot about me?" He jokingly laughed.
Fiona felt embarrassed, "I'm really sorry! I didn't- "
"Hey, it's fine! I swear, how about we go now? I mean, we don't want to end up being late to the reservation, right?" Kenji smiled.
She nodded, still embarrassed to an infinite extent. They walked side by side as the sun started to set. Kenji took Fiona's hand and clasped it. She looked up and saw him smiling genuinely. Fiona smiled back while blushing.
"So, you seriously haven't told anybody yet?" Kenji asked.
Fiona nodded. "Yeah, not one soul. But to be honest, I think they're starting to suspect something on me. My excuses are not working on them anymore."
"Well, if that time comes, just tell them. Don't lie. Us being together doesn't need to be a secret." He raised their clasped hand and kissed Fiona's forehand.
She couldn't seem to stop smiling. "Of course. But I just don't want them to get surprised and all that. Plus, have you seen them together? They're totally soulmates with each other!"
"Yeah, it's true though. My dude has never looked at any girl like that. Must be love at first sight." He laughed lightly.
Fiona laughed along. This day just seemed to keep getting better and better. They finally arrived at the restaurant with their reservation just on time. The waitress led them to their table and both of them sat down. Both are looking at the menu, choosing between the wide array of exotic dishes.
"Isn't these too expensive? Kenji, you know we could've just gone somewhere- "she said as she shook her head.
"Hey, hey. I was the one who called the reservation, I'll be the one to pay as well." Kenji spoke in assurance.
Fiona tried to reason out. "But- "
"Shush. Now, you go order whatever you want. This is our first date, my angel. Enjoy it." He held her hand and kissed her forehand once more.
Fiona sighed in defeat. "Okay, fine… I love you Kenji Luther Harland."
"I love you too, Fiona Isabelle Jacobson." He grinned.
Both of them enjoyed each other's company. It's a simple date night-out, and yet for Fiona, it seemed enchanting. This is a memory worth remembering. As she takes her time to enjoy the view of the place they're currently on, Kenji is looking at the most beautiful sight he'd ever seen.
"What are you looking at, Mr. Handsome?" Fiona said while continuing to admire the place.
"Oh, nothing. Just staring at the most beautiful thing I've ever seen." He smiled.
"Really?" She asked.
"Mhm. For a moment there, I even thought you were a masterpiece. Got to give it to your mom and dad for making you. They sure know what they're doing." Kenji smirked.
"I have no idea how to respond to that, Harland. But I'll take that as a compliment." Fiona smiled.
"It is a compliment, my angel." He spoke.
Fiona side-glanced him and smiled. She took out her camera and took a picture of the two of them. Kenji took a glance at the picture and chuckled.
"I looked like a penguin who's trying to smile,"
Fiona laughed at this, "Well, at least penguins are cute."
"I think penguins are funny. They like to do this little dance thing, then they slide out of blue." He explained while laughing.
"They do, don't they? Plus, they look like tuxedo birds," she said.
This caused Kenji to laugh out loud, catching the attention of some of the people there. They went back to their own businesses later on.
"You really got me there. Tuxedo birds? God, I can't seem to stop laughing at that one." He laughed.
"They do! It's because of their black and white appearance. The only thing that's missing is the red bow tie. If I manage to meet one penguin, I'd name it 'Sir Tuxedo Bird'" Fiona said.
"You sure know how to name things, huh, Fi?" He asked while smiling at her.
"Yeah, I sure am. In fact, I could even maybe rival Adam's naming skills!" She puffed her chest a bit.
"Adam? You mean from the Bible? I'm definitely on your side, Fi, but Adam's just got better skills of naming things than you." He slowly spoke to her, making sure she wouldn't get mad or anything.
"Well, - "
The conversation was then abruptly cut off by the same waitress, who's now half-carrying the food they've ordered. She carefully set the dishes down their table. Both of them said thanks to the waitress, who said the same thing as well to them.
They happily ate the food and continued to enjoy one another's company. Not an hour later and they've finished eating. Kenji burped a tad bit loud that caused Fiona to laugh, he joined later on with her.
A minute after the whole laughing fiasco, Kenji paid for their food. Both of them walked out of the restaurant with a full stomach and smiles plastered on their faces. He offered to walk her home since it's getting dark. And, Fiona's place isn't that far away either.
"I really had fun today. Thanks for this wonderful date, Ken." Fiona told.
"Of course, anything for you, my angel." He grinned.
They arrived in front of her house and both said their farewells. Fiona made sure that Kenji's out of sight before entering her house and closing the door. She squealed out of happiness and delight.
Fiona heard her phone ring, indicating that someone just messaged her.
"Wait, so does that mean I'm a penguin?" Kenji texted.
Fiona laughed lightly at his message, she texted back, "Yes. After all, penguins are cute. Goodnight, my penguin!"
Not a second had passed and he messaged back, "Goodnight, my angel. Sweet dreams."
Fiona smiled and headed for her room, making sure not to wake Eleanor up. It's currently 10:18 PM. She changed her clothes to her usual sleepwear and headed off to bed. Her last thought before dozing off was she and Kenji finally meeting each other as one another's soulmates.
