"Alright now that is done there is only one thing left to do, get your wand" Mr. Shang was in an incredibly good mood for someone who just spent an entire year worth of money on two robes, two sets of boots, a pointy hat, a pendant, and ring.
Of course, it wasn't his money so he didn't really care, jack, on the other hand, couldn't conceive a reason why spending that much money on clothes was even close to being necessary. But after his dad said they were going to get a wand he immediately put it in the back of his head as this was the part he was most excited about.
"Then we should go to Carpin Carpenters".
Actually getting to the store was the hardest part with it being an hours walk away, but not all was bad as there was a floo network which made the trip instantaneous, although Jack made it to the correct place he was furiously coughing for minutes, once he did get over it they finally made their way to the store across the road.
Ring ring ring.
The sound of the bell that ringed when the door opens sounded out making the middle-aged man sitting at the desk in front of the door to look up.
"Ahh, that's not a face I have seen for 28 years, my most memorable customer, quite the entourage you had back then," The middle-aged man said while remembering the days where he was still kinda young "So what can I do for you".
"We need a wand for Him".
"Hold up your wand arm".
After the middle-aged man told him to hold up his wand arm he got kinda confused until his mom taped his right shoulder so he held up his right hand.
"What's his height".
"5 feet".
Without even measuring anything the man just headed into the back that had bookcase after bookcase of small 4 inch boxes while human length boxes rested on the walls.
After a few minutes, the man came back with a couple of boxes.
"Alright give this one a wave 12 inches, rigid, phoenix feather core with applewood".
After picking up the box and sliding the top off Jack saw a beautiful reddish brownish wand that he immediately picked out of the box and gave it a wave, but nothing happened.
"Alright not that one, try this one 13 inched, flexible, American thunderbird blood core, aspen wood".
Again nothing happened so they tried 5 different ones.
"Are you sure he is magical?" The man asked in confusion as one wand doing nothing isn't rare but 7 that isn't very common?.
"Positive," both Adrian and Mrs. Shang said at the same time.
"Alright, maybe you aren't a wand guy" The man once again headed into the back this time taking a much longer amount of time than the previous times.
Once he did come back he held a human-sized box in his left hand and in his right multiple smaller ones, all of which he placed in front of Jack.
"Alright have you ever done any accidental magic," he asked jack.
"No, I haven't".
"Alright, the long way" the man muttered before looking at the assortment of boxes deciding to open the biggest one.
"A rarer type of magical wand, a staff, this particular one is 75 inch, Full Dragon heart core, with Sycamore wood".
After handing the staff to Jack who promptly grabbed it, after which it shrank down to 65 inches just 5 above his height.
"So what do I do this one," Jack asked in confusion because he couldn't just wave this.
"Just think of something magical like this candle catching on fire".
And so Jack began instantly thinking about the candle catching on fire after a couple of seconds the candle began to violently catch on fire, which soon rendered the whole thing a puddle on the table in just a couple of seconds.
"Aguamenti" after the middle-aged man took out his wand and waved at the smoldering candle wax water appeared out of nowhere instantly cooling the wax "Ah ha, the first Staff user in 13 years, 3rd this store has sold to while I've been alive, what a curious customer".
"Hmm yes, you are a staff user; but not the user of that staff" The man quickly took the staff away in fear of him burning anything else. "Hmm ill be right back".
After another couple of minutes of the man being gone jack turned to his parents and asked "how long is this suppose to take".
"Well, it depends on the wizard no wizard can choose the wand only the wand chooses so, if none chose you in an hour then we will stay for two" Adrian answered his question with confidence although he didn't really want to stay here for hours.
"Alright, here we are 4 staffs, try this one 80 inches, Full unicorn heart core with a welsh dragon heartstring, the wood being Apple and English oak".
"This time thinks vines growing on this desk, Vines, not fire, vines" the man put much emphasis on vines as he already had a burn mark on his desk which he would have to remove later.
After a couple of seconds, vines started to snake out of the desk anywhere they could.
"Alright much better, still a pain but much better, here try this one 83 inches, Dementor bone and Thestral wing core and the wood is yew, Blackthorne and a hint of elder" The man once again handed another staff to the young boy "this time think of those vines withering, focus on the vines".
After being forced to think about certain magical things happening jack had gotten pretty good at it so within a second the vines started to wither just like he thought.
"Interesting, very interesting, you will be the first person to make this store fashion a custom staff for a customer in 1000 years, alright come with me" just as they were all about to pass the desk and head into the back one of the boxes in the pile of different styles of the wand; that everyone forgot about toppled over and slide towards Jack and it didn't stop until the wandmaker placed his hand on it.
