Late Night Calls

CHAPTER 10

Christian couldn't sleep, he had already gotten enough money to take Sara on a date, he had booked a fancy restaurant just outside of town, and he couldn't wait to tell her he had gotten a venue for their date.

Everything was set, they were going to have a romantic candle lit dinner at a restaurant overlooking the beach, go sight seeing, and he had even rented a boat that he was going to ride with her that night, he had gone all out and all well, he wanted to make the night a memorable one, all that was left was to call her and tell her about it.

He couldn't wait to see her lovely face again, but there was a minor problem, he had been trying her cell number since in the afternoon at work, but she hadn't been picking up, later having the thought that she might be at school, he stopped and resolved to call her in the evening.

After unsuccessfully dialing her number, after taking his dinner without her picking up again, Christian began to worry if something had happened to her.

He did not know her whereabouts, he did not even know where she lived or schooled, the day they had accidentally met, and she had been on her uniform, he had been so busy looking at her pretty face, he had not even considered checking her school badge that wasinscribed on the uniform, so he could have an idea on where she schooled.

He promised to know all things about her, he would bombard her with questions so he could know everything about her, so if anything serious arose that would warrant him meeting her, he would have an idea, because he did not like the way his mind was leading him to think she was safe and in trouble, simply put he was not at rest.

Her friend Ariel had not started working at the supermarket, to say he had an option, the only thing keeping them together was the cell phone numbers they had exchanged, and now he couldn't even get to her as it wasn't connecting.

Throwing a glance, at the clock by his bedside, he saw that the time was almost 12am, he had overslept, he had wanted to call her again around 10pm, to see if she would pick and have a chance to talk to her.

If he called her now, would he disturb her, would her parents scold her, all these thoughts ran through his head as he picked up his phone to dial her cell.

After ringing five times with no success, he decided to go back to bed, when he saw the green button glowing in his cell, indicating she had picked the call, he was elated and started to speak, when the call went off again.

"Fuck!" hissing and muttering to himself, he wondered if it was network or bad signal playing tricks on him, assured and convinced that she would answer if he called again, he said a silent prayer within himself and dialled her cell once more.

Ringing twice, the call went through, smiling to himself he put the phone to his ear and said "Hello love."

Her shy little voice came through, so soothing and filled with longing she replied, "Hello Christian."

**********

Sara's heart was beating frantically, it was prohibited in the shelter to take late night calls, and here she was defying the orders.

If she were to be caught outside by this time of the night, she would be severely punished.

She gathered enough courage, breathed in and out, and answered, her guts telling her that the mysterious night caller was Christian, so she decided to go along with the flow.

"Hello Christian." she said quietly.

She could hear his silent breathing at the other end, the shallow sounds he made got her hot all over.

"Hey, Sara. Did I wake you up?" he asked slowly.

"Yes, you did..... and anything you want to say to me, can you please be fast, I don't want to be caught our here by this time of the night." she said hastily but quietly.

"You're outside, why, can't you stay in your room to pick the call?" he asked sounding confused.

"I will wake the kids up and....." she was still saying when he chimed in, "What kids, I don't understand you."

"Look Christian, just tell me what you want to say, so I can go back to bed, when next we meet I'll explain everything to you, but right now can we just get this conversation over and done with." She sounded frantic, cause she was in a rush and didn't want anyone to catch her outside.

"Ok, when we meet, which we are definitely going too, you'll tell me everything about yourself, where you live, where you school, your preferences, if you're the first or last born and other important stuffs like that right?" he said chuckling quietly.

Swallowing a lump in her throat, knowing the many things she had not told him yet, and wishing he would never know, she replied, "Yeah, I will definitely tell you everything."

"A promise?" he asked not sure if she was going to be truthful.

"Christian, I don't go back on my word i promise to tell you everything." she answered.

"That's my girl, so I called you to tell you I have finally found a venue for our date, love."
