CHAPTER SEVEN

Although Sam had talked to Michael he still felt empty inside. He felt like some part of him was missing. Then it hit him like a ton of bricks, he had been spending too much time thinking and although that was a good thing for him it wasn’t. He wanted to try and get some time to himself but he also wanted to get answers to why every time he thought of the person in the flashback he thought of Connor. Could it be possible that Connor was the boy in his flashback, his brother?! He decided to stick with Connor the whole day and act buddy-buddy to try and get some of his own answers before Michael could deliver the information he asked for.

At school Sam had been relatively close to Connor the whole day and at some point he forgot his name which just cracked Connor up because he didn’t seem to notice how strange Sam was acting.

“Mick!”

Someone called out,

“Mick!”

The voice called again but this time Sam snapped out of his daze to find the source of the voice. When he turned he found a confused but amused looking Connor staring at him as if he had been wearing makeup.

“What?”

Sam answered,

“You were calling me?”

There was a long silence but you really couldn’t call it silence because of all the noise being made by the hungry students in the cafeteria.

“You seem……off today. Is everything okay?”

Sam could tell that Connor was genuinely concerned but he couldn’t understand why.

He started to think about why Connor would be so concerned when he heard something that he never thought possible,

“Sammie, what’s wrong?”

Connor asked.

“What did you just call me?”

The question came out more of a whisper than anything else. All the color drained from Connor’s face when he realized what he had just said.

“I-I said S-Sammie. It’s j-just slang for friend. I have to go now bye!”

Before Sam could even utter a word Connor was already on his feet and scurrying to the closest exit but not before bumping into a teacher. If he could remember correctly the teacher’s name was Mr. Royce, his math teacher, and also the other person he vowed to end before leaving the school, right after Ms. Greengrocer of course. Mr. Royce was so mad he started barking at Connor to apologise but he just ran out of the cafeteria.

Sam was contemplating if he had heard correctly. Sammie. The only person who called him that was……his brother. It all made sense now, the neck chain with his initials, the flashback and now the nickname.

The realisation was so overwhelming it dragged Sam back to the place he grew up, the last place where he had a normal life. Home.

“Sammie!”

A voice called out. The voice sounded like it belonged to a young person but Sam could still point out some similarities to know who the voice belonged to. He had become too familiar with the voice to not recognise that it belonged to Connor.

“Connor stop calling me that!”

The little Sam whined. Sam knew that the little boy was him. He had a striking resemblance to he himself, the only difference is that he was older than the flashback version of himself.

“Sam how can I not call you that, it’s your nickname.”

Connor said laughing.

“Okay but if you want to call me that then you have to give me your sweet stash.”

He answered back cheekily.

“Half and we’ve got a deal.”

The little Connor said holding out his hand for Sam so they could seal the deal. He was bargaining just like their father had taught them to do. Sam gladly shook his brother’s hand with a smile plastered across his face.

The memory was so vivid one could think that it happened recently but in term it was just a stupid memory that happened many years ago. ‘A stupid memory’ Sam thought. He was trying to convince himself of something that couldn’t be possible. Sam started to think about his brother, his brother that died years ago.

His brother was dead right?
