62. Will it be a happy ending or a Shakespearean Tragedy?

Tens of burning torches stood upright, their tails buried in the ground like candles on a cake, to form a triangle. At all three corners, three human girls were placed. Their chasteness had been found intact and it was what was demanded for the ritual.

The witches formed a circle around the triangle. As they began rotating, their collective chants caused the air around them to dance to their tunes.

The girls had not been given name. They did not know who they had been conceived from. Their parents didn't either. All their life, they were prodded for their blood and had been trained to be numb to everything around them. Most of them didn't even know any language to communicate with each other. The Vampires discouraged them from learning. Only the cleverest humans picked up words sufficient to understand basic sentences.

But death... it could bring out the reaction of fear from anyone.
