Remnants of another Era 1.84

For his part, Viggo advanced at a brisk pace through the fog, finding the dark forest in his path and the corpses of the immortals in the process. All of them had their heads blown out, it was an almost instantaneous death, Viggo supposed. Then he kept moving forward until he found the obsidian stone pillars and knew he was on the right track. A few minutes later he found a depression in the earth that was two meters deep and three meters wide. He continued down that road and found several statues of people, all of them in a pose of running in terror of something. They were incredible sculptures; you could see the intensity of his fear in the look and in the expression on his face.

Viggo continued to advance along the road and encounter more statues until he reached the end and found a staircase that took him to a large flat space with the entire floor covered with obsidian stone. On the left side was the dark forest while, on the right, there was a large entrance with a huge obsidian stone door. The place seemed abandoned with some rubble of pillars scattered all over the site. On the sides of the gate were large walls ten meters high, also made of obsidian stone. From its length and shape, it seemed that the prison had been built in the shape of a square. Only this side of the square was more than five hundred meters long.

Viggo advanced to the door and hit the surface with his palm several times. Totally immovable, he thought, at least with his current strength. So, he looked for the typical indentations that remain between the blocks that make up the wall and began to climb. Once he reached the top of the wall, he saw that inside they had built paths that snaked until they reached a large rectangular space in the center of the prison. He walks along the wall, without much intention of going down. Everything looked dirty and abandoned, with hundreds of statues scattered along the halls. Not to mention that his instinct told him that there were many snakes.

Viggo kept walking along the top of the wall, advancing on the right side until he turned a corner and kept moving forward. He saw crumbling pillars, cracked walls and sinkholes in the ground. However, as he was arriving at a junction, he saw that, in a corridor before the large rectangle in the center of the prison, there was a golden circle thrown on the ground. Viggo thought it was wrong, but instinct and greed told him it was a useful thing. So, he took the crossing, kept advancing along the top of the wall and once he reached the height of the golden circle, he placed his axe at the top of the wall and started taking arrows and shooting them where instinct told him there were snakes. The arrows flew cutting through the air and within a few seconds, the growl of a dying snake could be heard.

Viggo occupied the twenty arrows he was carrying on his back and felt that he was missing two snakes. However, since each one was more than twenty meters from the golden circle, he guessed that he was fine. Viggo approached the crevices in the wall and began to descend until he reached the ground. The air was stale, loaded with dirt and moisture. Viggo approached the golden circle at the same time as he looked at the surroundings. Once he reached the golden circle, he realized that it was a shield of a foreign material. The shield had a thick layer of dust on it, but it still glowed as if it didn't exist. Viggo hung the bow on his shoulder and put the axe between his legs to hold it. Then he takes the shield, blow it to remove the layer of dirt and generate a large cloud of dust. Viggo reacted by coughing as managed to suck in some of the dirt. After coughing enough, Viggo looked at the shield: it had a golden border with four cross-like stripes and connected with a smaller circle in the center. In addition, in the center of that shield was the head of a person, but instead of hair it had snakes.

Viggo thought the shield might be useful and climbed the wall again. Then he began to walk on top of the wall and reached the great rectangle in the center of the prison. It was fifty meters wide by a hundred meters long. At the same time, there were six pillars evenly distributed and in its center was a gray creature that looked almost like a human. The creature was still and clutching its head as if it couldn't with something in its mind.

Viggo left the quiver at the top of the wall and descended a corner only carrying the shield and axe. Apparently, the creature ignored his presence. So, once Viggo came down to the ground, he crouched until he reached the pillars surrounding the creature. He took a closer look at her and noticed that what was in her head, moved like snakes. At the same time, the creature was crying as if lamenting something.

Viggo took advantage of channelling his mana to the axe and the runic engravings on his head were lit with a heavenly glow. The head of the axe was filled with frost and emitted an incredible cold. Then Viggo approached until he reached a meter of the creature, left the shield on the ground, and took the axe with both hands. He took a deep breath, together with strength and gave him an axe with all his strength at the height of his neck. The creature screamed in pain, flew out three meters beyond and lay on the ground.

Viggo stared at her, noticing that even though he put all his strength into that blow, her head was still stuck to her neck. So, he stepped back, took the shield, and prepared for the worst.

The next instant the creature let out a heart-breaking scream and stood up with an agile jump. At the same time, a golden light flashed in her hands and transformed into two daggers with a wavy blade. The creature fell to its feet with its back to Viggo, slowly turned around, and showed him a bright look as if she had electricity in her eyes. At the same time, her hair stirred and began to move like snakes.

-Gorgon- Viggo murmured with the golden shield raised, only poking his eyes above the edge. Then he began to move forward, but suddenly he blinked, and the gorgon disappeared. Then he felt that something was behind him and noticed that the gorgon was five meters away from him and levitated one meter from the ground. She was surrounded by a sphere of energy and threw beams of light everywhere. Viggo didn't feel anything special but hear someone running. They were heavy sound, as if that something had feet made of stone. The next instant, five stone statues jumped from the top of the walls. All of them in the form of warriors who carried swords and shields. At the same time, the light around the gorgon faded, and she fell to the ground. Then Viggo took advantage of imbuing the axe with ice, extended his arm back carrying the axe, roared and threw the axe through the air. The axe flew over more than ten meters and plunged into the gorgon's chest sending her flying.

On the other hand, the statues ran towards Viggo with the intention of attacking him. Viggo used the shield to receive a sword and lessen the impact, and then expel the sword. Then the stone warrior was left off guard and Viggo gave him a frontal kick sending him to fly and collide with one of the pillars. The next instant the warrior was torn to shreds, but that was only one and there were four more left.

Viggo continued to cover himself from the rest of the attacks of the other stone warriors and when he could, he threw furious punches that broke their heads. However, when the last stone warrior was left standing, Viggo heard an angry cry as he held a sword with the shield as he looked behind him. Then he notices that the gorgon had removed the axe from her chest and levitated back into the air as a golden energy surrounded her. She once released beams of golden light and more stone warriors were heard running again.

Viggo frowned and pushed the shield up by raising his guard to the stone warrior and with the same edge of the shield, attacked him, destroying his head on the spot. Then he ran to the gorgon and once she lost the golden glow and fell to the ground. Viggo lifted the shield and threw a blow with the edge. The gorgon received the attack on her head and flew out five meters from Viggo. The latter searched everywhere for his axe and found it two meters away, covered with earth. He picked it up and heard the stone warriors fall one after another from the walls.

Viggo frowned and ran in search of the first stone warrior, who greeted him with a sword. Viggo look, elusive and fluid, counter with an axe, splitting it in half. Then he ran to the next enemy while the stone warriors ran to intercept him. Viggo was able to attack a stone warrior and kill him, but he had to retreat by covering himself from the attack of two stone warriors who caught up with him. Then he understood better what the difficulty was of facing the gorgon. The physical power was normal, almost disappointing, but her ability to call the warriors she had turned into stone was a total nuisance.

Viggo launched a furious cry and advanced receiving attacks with the shield while delivering powerful blows with the axe. He killed one statue after another until he finished the tenth, but when he realized, the gorgon was screaming again, wrapped in golden light and calling for more statues.

Viggo ran towards the gorgon with all his strength and as soon as she lost that golden glow and fell to the ground, Viggo threw the axe wrapped in frost at her. The axe flew along and hit the gorgon in the middle of the forehead. The latter was sent to the ground by the impact and Viggo caught up with her in an instant. He threw out the shield, pulled the axe from his head, and the gorgon screamed in anger. However, Viggo was faster, taking the axe with both hands and disciplining her again and again. The gorgon cried out in pain, but Viggo never stopped his attack.

Just then, twenty statues fell from the walls ready to fight. However, Viggo gave one last angry cry, raised the axe, and discharged it with all his strength. The gorgon gave one last agonizing cry and lost her head. At the same time, the statues that began to run in the direction of Viggo, lost their energy and collapsed on the ground.

Viggo saw the whole body of the gorgon shine just like the rest of the monsters left by the gods. Instantly the body dissipated and only a golden sphere remained.

Viggo gasped and felt the heart in his throat. He had never faced such a troublesome enemy. Just thinking about prolonging the struggle, he felt chills. Perhaps, five minutes later, he would have been fighting hundreds of stone warriors at the same time.
