Prelude to change 2.187

When it was six o'clock in the afternoon, Viggo traveled to his father's house, together with Semiramis and Scheherezade. The latter had left the administration of the jewelry stores to Hitomi and tomorrow she would resume command. For now, I was more worried about Viggo and his situation. Kiara could have said he was fine, but as a mortal, she could only believe and hope.

Semiramis' luxurious carriage stopped in front of Kain and Viggo's house under first. He helped descend to Scheherezade, then received Uriel and gave her to Scheherezade. Finally, under Semiramis, whom Viggo helped and when she was on the sidewalk, she requested her baby from Scheherezade. The four approached the door, but it was not even necessary to knock, since Kain himself, like an idiotic grandfather, opened the door and approached the fence looking fondly at Uriel. He dressed as usual, white shirt, dark pants, and knee-high boots. His long white hair fell to the sides of his face, framing a slender face with delicate features, typical of an elf while his pointed ears protruded from his hair.

-Girl, you came to visit your grandfather- Kain said with a big smile and practically ignoring the rest. If it hadn't been for Semiramis holding Uriel, he wouldn't even have noticed her existence. Kain opened the door and held out his hands for Semiramis to hand over the baby.

Viggo put his hand to his mouth and coughed, thus drawing attention -father, I think you are being a little impolite-

-Oooh, what's wrong, boy? You're a little old enough for your father to carry you in your arms-

-Father...-

-Just kidding, just kidding, but I love Uriel- said Kain -Come here with Grandpa- Semiramis looked at Kain awkwardly and handed the baby with fine red hair. Kain took her in his arms with an incredible smile and then looked at the rest -come in, don't stop there. Although I can't say I love them as much as I love Uriel, they are still my family-

Kain turned around and walked home as Viggo, Semiramis and Scheherezade put on awkward smiles.

After entering the house, they continued down the hallway and heard a lot of families mention Uriel's name. Viggo arrived at the kitchen with his wives and found Hephaestus holding Uriel. Mikoto and Isabel, also Kain's wives, approached her and told her that she was very beautiful, as if the baby could understand such words of praise.

-Honey- said Kain next to Hephaestus -I had Uriel, why don't you give it back to me?-

-Not to mention, she is my granddaughter. The most logical thing is that she is with her grandmother- replied Hephaestus while Mikoto and Isabel nodded.

Kain frowned, looked at Uriel and saw her suck her chubby thumb -come with Grandpa- said in a last effort that she looked pathetic, stretched her hands with a sad face, but the red-haired baby only stared at him.

At the same time, Hephaestus let out a snort and looked away, taking Uriel away and being followed by Isabel and Mikoto.

-Well, it looks like you got your comeuppance- said Viggo, approaching Kain with a smile on his lips -that happens to you because you're uncut to your son and daughters-in-law-

-What do you want boy from the devil?- asked Kain in a very bad mood, turned around and left the kitchen to go to the yard, where the apple tree was. There he would sit in the shade and drink some wine to drown his sorrows.

Viggo was surprised by his father's reaction, as he didn't expect him to react that way just because his wife took away her granddaughter. Viggo let out a sigh, looked at Semiramis and Scheherezade.

-Go, dear- said Semiramis -talk to your father-

-It will be good if they are both alone- added Scheherezade, a little worried about accompanying Viggo.

-Yes, don't worry- said Viggo -I'll talk to my father, you can go with my mother and the rest of my aunts. I'm sorry for dragging you into all this-

-Viggo need not worry- said Scheherezade in a soft, reconciling voice -it's just us who cared about you- To which Semiramis nodded corroborating Scheherezade's words.

Viggo said goodbye to each one with a kiss and went to the courtyard. In the background, where the apple tree was, Kain was sitting at a table with a bottle of wine and a glass. Viggo let out a sigh and walked through the garden until he reached the table. He sat opposite his father and stared at him. Kain noticed his presence and with a gesture of his right hand, where he had his ring, he made another cup appear. Kain took the bottle, poured both glasses and put the bottle back on the table. He took his cup, stared at Viggo and the latter also took his cup. Both raised their glasses making a toast and drank a drink. Then they left their glasses on the table and Kain stared at Viggo, as if questioning him with his eyes.

-Father, I- said Viggo before that serious look.

-Boy, you've come of age, you have a daughter and wives- said Kain -stop behaving like a brat. You came for something, otherwise you wouldn't have brought Uriel-

-It was wrong-

-Well, yes, you should have brought it when I was alone in the house. So, your mother doesn't take my granddaughter from me-

-Father- said Viggo with an uncomfortable smile.

-Aaaah, boy, don't look at me like that. When you get older you will understand this feeling. Now get to the point. To all this, how are you? The other day you were dreaming of a strange ability-

-That's what I wanted to talk about- Viggo replied.

-Well, here I am- Kain said calmly, take a deep breath and cheer up -begins to speak-

-Well, you see, Kiara told me that my divinity was tied to the ability to have dreams of the future and clairvoyance-

-Those are pretty rare and useful skills- Kain said, recalling his days as a balance scion and his endless days of study, not knowing where to go or how to move the scales of fate. If he had had something so convenient, he wouldn't have been so confused and moving blindly. However, people who had such skills never ended well-

-I also thought the same thing- said Viggo -I came because I hoped you would help me get a better idea of my abilities-

-Ooh boy, I couldn't tell you that you came to the best place, but I can't be categorical and tell you I don't know anything. You see, your skills could be considered weird. I've never owned anything like it, but I've read about it-

Kain made a gesture with his right hand, where he had the ring and, in the air, appeared a book.

Viggo frowned and said -Father, I'm coming to give me an answer, not to make me study one of your books-

Kain picked up the book, was going to open it, but stopped when he heard Viggo. Kain closed the book, got up and in a gentle motion hit him with the book on his head. Viggo clutched his head with both hands and looked at his father resentfully.

-Viggo, you're not a kid anymore- Kain said in an authoritative voice -stop complaining about everything. You come here, ask me for help and start complaining before I explain my ideas-

-I- said Viggo, frowning and looking away.

-Viggo, being an adult means maturing. This is a perfect example of how not to behave. I am your father, I have patience with you, but do not expect the rest of the people to have it with you-

-Yes, Father- said Viggo, raising his head.

Kain could only see one child in that look. He let out a sigh and focused on the book in his hands. He opened it by the index and held it out to Viggo. The latter received it and stared at the index.

-And this?- asked Viggo, looking at Kain with a confused expression.

-This is the closest thing to possessing clairvoyance- Kain said in the tone of a scholar's voice -Clairvoyance is seeing and, in many cases, finding at a distance. That depends. For example, an index is created as the enumeration of the chapters of a book and tells you where a topic you are looking for may be. That means it's just a snippet of content-

-It's confusing-

-Think of it like this, if an index is a fragment and what you are looking for is the whole, how can you connect both points?-

-Through clairvoyance?-

-Exactly, you can connect a small piece of whatever and find what it is linked to-

-I understand what else?-

Kain made an uncomfortable smile and replied -that's why he told you, I wouldn't know if you came to the right place or tell you that I don't know anything. I know a little, but it's so little that it's just an indication. As if you were asking me, where is the tower of Babel? I could tell you that it is the big tower that almost touches the sky in the center of Orario, but as you arrive, it is up to you-

-In a nutshell I can only experiment-

-That's right, I'm sorry, boy, that's all I can tell you. In a sense, I wish I had visions of the future and clairvoyance, but at the point where I am, it's unnecessary. I just must break through-

-And how would my skills help me?-

-Namely, where to look, when to look and what to find-

-That's confusing-

-OK, let me tell you a story. Once upon a time there was a priest...-

-Father- Viggo protest

Kain frowned and began to reach for the book to punish him again. Viggo rushed to hide it and Kain stared into his eyes.

-I get it, I'll shut up- said Viggo.

-It's the best, for your own sake, boy- Kain replied.

Kain recounts indirectly, about his days as a balance scion and how he had to move blindly, looking for clues in ancient murals painted centuries ago, where there were unclear clues. All that led him to Raziel, whom he called "an important person" and that led him to achieve his goals. Of course, Kain did not tell him that achieving his goal did not make him happy, only that he was able to defeat his enemies and restore balance in the world.

-I understand, it can be quite helpful to know what can happen- Viggo said.

-Yes- Kain replied, taking his glass of wine from the table, and bringing it to his lips. He took a long sip and then put it back on the table -but you must know something, nothing is final, and fate can be changed. You just must know Where, When and what to change. However, you must be careful, every change affects other things and if you do it wrong, everything can go to waste-

-I- said Viggo with some fears -I don't feel like knowing anymore-

-Is your destiny so simple?- asked Kain.

Viggo looked into his eyes and shook his head

-Then you cannot afford to ignore the future, the information and everything that may happen. You must find the balance, but, above all, not go crazy. Scope: The main mistake of that person who restored the balance of the world was to think that the "important person" was his enemy and he had to bend it. Well, it wasn't. That "important person" realized that the other person wanted to reach a better result and helped him.

-I understand, not everything has to be negative or fixed with violence or fighting. Sometimes we can change destiny by acting in the right way-

-Don't say it like that, the right thing is something as arbitrary as fashion. It changes according to each era and person. However, I can say that doing good to others often has better results than just confronting it. There are times when there is no choice but to fight, people who really don't want to change or improve or reach a middle point where everyone wins. At that time, it remains only to fight. But knowing Where, When and What is important-

-I understand father, I will start looking for my own answers-

-That's a positive thing if you came to that conclusion on your own-
