Hiding Something

"What's the matter, Pa? Eric doesn't have a fever!" said Eric, looking down. Eric doesn't want his papa to know if his face is currently battered, from yesterday's fight.

"You see, you're really really kind, Eric. Usually, papa gets a glass of water when he's drunk," muttered Mr. Reno, still suspicious.

But Eric didn't respond.

Eric instead busied himself by opening the banana peel for his papa and handing the banana to Mr. Reno.

Mr. Reno accepted the banana without paying attention to Eric's face. The vision is still shading and Mr. Reno has not realized that his son's face is battered at this time.

Eric smiled in relief because he saw that his father looked much better than he was last night.
