A Heart’s Absence

A month went by before anyone took a break. Jay came home and was instantly tackled. Dawn and Dusk didn't see him around much since the training started, and they wanted their turn to fight with him. He faked defeat and then pinned them down saying, "Ugh. You two are getting too big." They simply wanted his time, and they spent a good while swapping stories about their days, not having talked for a while. Stories like Jay body slamming Logan against a tree while Victor doubled back on him and smashed him into the mud. Dawn's best story was how her and Dawn spent half the day dragging a huge oak limb twenty times their size. However, they weren't the only ones he had been neglecting. "Ohhhh. Mr. Howlett!..."Crystal's voice rang out from their den. "Your wife needs you." Jay looked at the girls and chuckled "The boss is calling. I'll see the two of you in the morning," he said kissing them both on the head. Crystal whisked him away to their garden for some quiet time and one of their moonlit evenings. She wasn't going to take any time with him for granted again.
