A Heart’s Exaltation

He desperately fought through the crowd inside the den and trotted right over to his wife. She was curled around a large ball of fur, a dark dark chestnut brown but with leopard spots still visible. Jay gingerly sniffed at his new son, who looked up at him with a fragile mew. His eyes were a glistening sun burnt orange with streaks of his father's blue going through them. Jay gathered his daughters Dawn and Dusk next to him to see their new baby brother, assuring them that the danger was over. "Does he have a name yet?" Lucifer asked, putting his arm around his friend. "Several weeks ago we decided that his name would be Twilight." They had forgotten that half of the clan was behind them until they all either cheered or awed. They turned around startled and then began laughing a bit in humiliation. "Oh, yeah…" Lucifer said. He raised and waved his arms dramatically. "You can all go home now, we killed the dragon! Stories will be told around the bonfire tonight." Jay looked at him gratefully. "Hey Luce, you wanna stay for dinner? Not sure you've ever eaten dragon before." "No way I'd miss that!" he replied. "But I do have to go home after that. The demons can't have all of the fun torturing the beast," he chuckled, and I've got some rouge demons to put in line.

Jay settled down around his family, purring, while grooming them all. Lucifer followed everyone outside. They all ran to their loved ones and marveled at the mass of the dragon's body laying outside of their camp. Even little Korra trotted after Nala. Logan ran to them, scooping his daughter up in his arms and then squeezed Nala, overjoyed that his entire world was still intact. He immediately started chatting about his excitement about making armor with the dragon's parts and how well the enforcements in the health den's walls held. The entire clan, minus the more seriously injured, then began what would be a week long process of dissecting and preserving the dragon's edible parts.

Logan had the horns of the creature mounted. The dinner bonfire was quite large and the stories got more and more exaggerated with each telling. The thing they had spent months preparing for was finally over. The party lasted for two days straight. Jay even made sure to snag a good many bones for him and his daughters to carve, before his Father could haul them off to make weapons out of them. He had everything he could have dreamed of and more. Dusk loved hearing how her Father dared to dive through the flesh of the mighty dragon. He spared no attention from them either even with their new brother. They enjoyed trying to teach him new things like play fighting, both letting out low growls and lightly patting him on the head. He tried to bite and tumble after them.

The words of the dragon lingered in the air and haunted Logan's dreams. A few months had passed since the battle, and yet he still worried for his daughter. She was part of his supposedly cursed bloodline. As she grew, he started to notice abnormal things about her. Her skin became really hot when she became angry or threw a fit, once even catching a bush on fire. Even though it was snowing when the dragon battle was over all those months ago, Logan couldn't confirm it, but he thought he saw her turn a blood puddle into ice out of fear when she saw the dead beast. They hadn't told her yet that that giant creature had come to kill her. But what had happened that morning had confirmed it. It was bright and sunny, even warm for a spring day.. Out of nowhere it started raining and Logan had found Korra crying while talking to her mother, she had told her the truth, everything.

She would often run to her nephew, Twilight, for comfort. He was different like her, growing up having to learn to control his powers. He was more ready when his started to appear thanks to his sister's warnings and stories. His wings in fact had just begun to start growing out, not metallic like his father's, but white fluffy knobs. He neither had Jay or his sister's vampire qualities of speed or bloodlust. What he did have from that curse was the elongated fangs and a special gift all his own; the physical ability to change his appearance to camouflage with anything, being virtually invisible, an ultimate hunter. The two young royals liked showing off their gifts to one another as they gained strength.
