170. Impossible truth

The two men had settled near a river not far from the cave. They had chosen the shallowest corner, but Connor was still following Sora's every movement as she frolicked in the water. His gaze was attentive, but part of his mind was far away, still in Red Creek territory.

"My mouth is a little lower."

"Hmm?"

The man with light brown hair looked down at his fiancé and immediately noticed that he had been trying for several seconds to make him swallow a grape through his nostril. He chuckled and aimed the fruit at the right orifice, which was immediately grabbed by Greg's teeth. The doctor who was lying on Connor's lap glanced at him.

The man's face didn't have its usual glow and he guessed what was going through his mind because he had been thinking the same thoughts ever since they left Red Creek territory.

"Do you want to call Stevenson?"

Connor sighed and pulled out another grape, threw it in his mouth, and shook his head, chewing in denial.
