Chapter 33

My stay with Carlos was a short one. Just long enough to eat and regain my strength.

As he brought me back to my body, he whispered promises to return and teach me proper magic.

That was a few days ago.

I’m back to fighting manticores, and feeding has become more regular.

The boys still haven’t been returned, which is worrying. I wonder if they’re okay.

In all, not much has changed. Except for the fact that I feel oddly refreshed.

No less terrified of the future, but much stronger.

When Makkie is returned from her training early one day, I know something is about to go down.

“You are not going to believe what I just heard,” she says, once Will shuts the door and is gone.

I shuffle into a slightly more comfortable sitting position, ready to listen. I nod, signaling for her to begin.

She takes a breath. “Okay. You have another fight coming up.”

My ears perk up. Another fight? That’s not exactly news.

“He’s a vampire called Ryder.”
