Ch. 497 Grand Theft Air

Secret gatherings in remote locations and coded messages left in plain sight were now the only way that mages and those that still had dealing with them communicated. Most never stayed in the same place more than a week, so useing messenger birds was rather tricky and came with a high risks. Most birds used by mages and common people had several natural predators that could kill them before they delivered their message to its intended recipient.

The larger birds such as the especially bread miti-tailed ravens used by the Empire of Kerseye and the Great Witch Houses were not wildly available on the market if they ever found their way out of the inner circle of wealth kingdoms fortunate enough to acquire one, and their keep was a rather expensive undertaking. A big cage with a huge hungry and loud bird inside was also very difficult to move around without drawing unwanted attention to oneself.
