Arcane Tomb

We walked into the cave, the narrow passageway unfolding before us. I used my lamp as a guide illuminating the small pathway in front.

Behind me is the girl I've fantasized about for the past three years.

This is all too real! I'm on a stream?!? I cant speak to one person in real life so how am I speaking to thousands??

This is way too far out of my comfort zone. This is too far from my room. I need to be back in that familiar darkness. My cave who's only light comes from the gap between the window and the blinds. My cave that I have hardly left in the last five years. This is all too real. I can get past this game with its realism but can I really survive a thing like this?

Soon the narrow path opened out, twisting and curving into a large chamber. The walls were lined with chains and cobwebs. Moss crawled up the dark stone walls and oozed out of every nook and cranny.

Swinging my arm out I stopped. Judging by the style this is likely an undead dungeon. Zombies and skeletons will likely attack. Aaaaah my old friends and allies 'the undead'. Anyway if it's a horde or ambush I don't think we can deal with them. I don't have enough horde skills to deal with undead.

The terrifying quality about most undead is the lack of stun damage or recoil. When you hit them they don't stop until they're completely 'dead dead'. I can set some traps, maybe use my webs to create a wall or trap and then hang back shooting them with 'divine arrow'. But what if there are areal monsters like bats or gargoyles? and are my webs strong enough to hold ten or twenty opponents. I can use my combo moves to burn a few but does fire carry from monster to monster in this game? How high leveled are the monsters? Are they strong enough that they'd die from fire damage????

Aaaaaaah! I'm overthinking it. I know it's a horde fight coming up or the monster would be there from the get go. So I'll create some trip wires and a few walls of webs and then walk on.

I summoned the webs and tied them to Divine arrows shooting them around the room. I then weaved a blanket of the webs and shot that across the chamber. Then, still unsure, I gingerly walked on. My feet kicked out as I stepped. I kept low trying to avoid arrow traps. I must have looked stupid. Everyone is probably laughing at me. But this is the way to win. To treat this as real life.

Suddenly a huge sound bounced through the hall and thousands of steps clattered through the hall, each clap of the heels reverberating through the stone room. I stood up grabbing my dagger. Yes! I was right!

Dozens of skeletons charged through the door, their white bodies clattering on the stone like armour.

The first ten ran forward charging into my wall of webs. It stretched and pulled their tiny hands clawing at the webs. Then another ten charged behind them ripping the we. I summoned my lamp and set the web on fire burning the twenty or so caught in my trap. I then jumped backwards and started to fire onto the horde, forgetting about Psye.

She was standing behind me stunned and in awe. I started to rain the bright glowing arrows into the morrowed warriors as they charged.

I got lucky. The small skeletons are so light that even my thin threads trip them up and catch them. It's an essential buffer that allows me to pick them off. If it was anything bigger I'd be surrounded by now.

There were about eleven skeletons left all were charging at us free of any obstruction.

I'm running out of Mp. The bright blue bar next to my health slowly drops with each arrow. It's only a matter of time. I have maybe three shots left. Can I really take on eight skeletons without magic? I can't use skills either.

Just as I was struggling my mind filled with doubts and failed plans Psye ran in slashing at the skeletons. He arms thrashing out at the bones and her sword crushing their bodies. I followed running underneath attacks and charging into the monsters. I jumped on top of the small skeleton pressing my knife into its head cracking the bone as I pressed the steel into his eye socket. Soon the stragglers were dead. It's clear their only advantage was numbers so it wasn't too difficult.

It's a weird feeling, having someone help you. It's a first for me. Normally I grind and grind until I can play solo. Until recently I'd never been to a party. And suddenly I find myself helpless without her. I never could've found a dungeon how I normally play. I said I don't want to be OP this time, I said I wanted to be in a team with all my 'friends' but is that really what I want, can I be anything other than a solo player? I mean all I'm good for is games. Everything else escapes me.

'You killed 32 skeletons.

You leveled up'

"What level are you now?"

"Nine I think"

"Ok and thanks for the help." Did I just say that?????? Aaaaah I sound so arrogant!!!! Aaah kill me! I totally forgot about the stream in the heat of the battle.

I'm so damn pathetic!!!!!

We walked past the singed corpses and broken webs and out of the door.

"Ok after that fight let's take a short break to look at the chat."

'Holy shit!'

'What the hell was that?'

'How did he do that?'

'Seriously what is his US?'

'How does he already have three skills and I don't even have one???'

"Eheheh looks like lots of people want to know what Assassin's US is. Feel like telling them." Paste was staring at me with a nervous smile across her face. I can't tell people. They'll say I'm a hacker or that I just got lucky.

"Nah I think I'll keep it a secret for a little longer."

We walked on through the dungeon coming across a small group of skeletons or ghouls all were easy to dispatch and by the time we got through most of the dungeon. I had reached level 23, something about dungeons means i level up easier, Psye became level thirteen. We ventured into a room. It should be the last, you can tell by the door. It was the same stone door that we had seen before but now it was adorned with gold.

This time I don't need to think. I just need to have fun… It's a game after all. The boss is likely a necromancer. With the two of us it should be fine. I pressed my hand on the door opening the heavy stone entrance. As they opened a flood of white light rushed out to greet us.

As my eyes adjusted to the light I looked around the room. I saw only a wide hall lined with pillars and grand windows, the paned arches letting light flood in. the carefully sculpted marble pillars hund with skulls and bones. The floor was a clean grey stone and had a long red carpet that retreated up some steps and ended at a golden throne. The regal furnishings were shocking. The hall was smaller than a palace should be; it was painfully obvious what a pathetic attempt at royalty it is. That's useful information if this turns into a conversation.

I moved through the doorway and stepped onto the spotless red carpet. The mud and blood on my boot soaking into his carpet.

"Who dares approach me, the king?!?!" and here we go.

"You a king? Of what? Pathetic skeletons? Useless Ghouls? Don't make me laugh. If you're king, what are you king of?"

He slammed his hand into his throne breaking the chair. "The Dead you swine!!!!!!!!!"

As I thought, a necromancer.

The ground began to rumble. My heart was pounding. My legs started to shake, no the ground was shaking and moving me. What the hell is he?? What is he summoning??

"LIVE!!!"

The shaking stopped and a pair of feet appeared, bones building up and attaching to each other with muscle and ligaments. Tendons and scarred, rotting flesh all spinning around each other building and building from the ground creating legs and then hips then arms and a torso and then a disgusting face, the jaw was broken and hanging off the skin barely recognisable as mortal blood dripping from the destroyed face. Half the upper head was missing its green flesh tearing away and exposing bone. Its eyes were a bright yellow one hanging from the nerves.

The monster was horrific and giant. It was at least three times my size. Blood dripped from its hands as it held a huge sword with a thick heavy blade.

It lifted the sword above its head preparing to smash it down into the floor. My brain went into overdrive running through everything I know about games.

"Give me your sword!!!!!"

Psye, still caught in a daze, threw her sword at me. It's my only chance. If this doesn't work I'll die right here. I pulled the two blades across my chest in an X formation.

The giant swung his sword down at me, the air rushing and the ground cracking under the swing. The pressure was immense pushing me down into the ground and making my knees weak.

'Unique skill 'Copy' activated - 'Vicious Counter'

Thank god I kept this skill.

The blades swung outwards. My arms fell to my side.

Did It work? Am I high level enough? Am I strong enough?

The giant sword was still falling towards me… did I fail?

'Weapon destroyed -0'

The hunk of steel separated falling behind me.

Not thinking I threw Psye's sword back and charged up the shattered blade, my feet pattering across the thick blade until I reached his ghastly chin. I jumped upwards, my knee smashing into his jaw and shattering the bone.

'-60'

I then thrust my dagger into his head. The short blade sinking into his skull.

'-70'

I jumped over its head and stabbed into the monster's back pulling the blade through its flesh.

'-95'

'Unique Skill 'Copy' activated - 'twin slash charge'

I dived into his back, slashing at the green flesh and unleashing torrents of blood.

'-300'

How much health does this thing have??????

I need a critical hit so why wont my eye work?

The giant kicked backwards, his heel slamming into my stomach. The roten foot ploughed into my body. launching me backwards my feet left the ground and I was thrown like a rag doll my body completely out of my control.

The pain surged up my spine.

I can't breathe!

Why can't I breathe?

I flew into a wall, the rock cracking behind me.

Blood rolled down my cheek from the corner of my mouth.

This game is too realistic!

I can't back down now. That hurt but it didn't take many health points. As long as I get up! As long as I keep going! I can win! The monster has turned his attention away from me.

"Hey who the hell do you think you're ignoring?!?"

I summoned an arrow of light firing the dazzling arrow into the back of his head. I ran forward webs trailing from my hands. I jumped around the room circling the monster and mummifying him in my webs.

Now let's burn this thing to the ground!

Flames erupted from my palm and sprouted from my hands, the webs igniting and blazing with a scalding heat.

And then I saw it. The blue target, expanding and contracting. The deep blue is the only thing on my mind. Like the finish line on a race track. I lunged forward into the flames plunging my sword into the blue target, the sense of completion as it dropped to the floor. Its charred skin falling off the bone.

Then as quickly as possible, my body slowing and my breathing erratic I dashed to the necromancer.

"NO! I am the king! You can't beat my ne..."

I shoved the knife in his throat, blood spraying out like a fountain. Sprinkling into the air.

I sat down on the ground panting and sweating.

"Well we uuuh… cleared the dungeon so I guess that's all for today.

Bye bye people and see me next time."

So the stream is over. I managed to survive. And it's only eleven, that leaves me open to work the rest of the day so I'm free all of tomorrow.

'Unique Skill 'Copy' evolving new sub skill 'Paste' unlocked next unlock at level 75'

Paste???? I'll take it. Copy and paste has helped me through most of school, why not this game?

"Hey are you ok?"

"Yeah, just taking down fourteen foot undead isn't my normal workout so I need to catch my breath."

"Hahah fair. And thanks for playing with me. I doubt that this many people would've watched if you didn't."

"No problem you'll play with us in a couple days right?"

"Yeah, why not today though?"

"I have to work."

"You have a job??"

"Nah I just take odd jobs to pay for games and new stuff is all."

"Well what about tomorrow?"

"In case I don't make enough today. And if I do a day of grinding."

"Well if that's the plan can I play with you?"

"Yeah but I don't know if you'll be able to handle the quests of a level twenty five."

"Oh shut up I'm level sixteen."

"I was kidding, hey has your arrow evolved yet?"

"Yes actually."

"Oooh show me."

"NO! You'll just steal it and use it for yourself."

"Fine fine I won't use your ability anymore. Sacrifice skill - 'Divine arrow', happy?"

"Fine but I'll show you tomorrow, give you something to look forward to,

Now Bye I've got an actual job to attend."

And like that she was gone leaving me alone in a dungeon.

I should go too. It's a necessary sacrifice. And I doubt anyone will break level twenty whilst I'm gone but If they do it will just give me an excuse to level faster.

This game really is fun…
