My New Life in the Kingdom of Wolves

"That will be all for now, Cranston." Ullerby waved his hand at the man and sent him scuttling out of the room. 


As soon as the door was shut, he picked up his teacup and nearly drained it. As he did that, Violet came closer toward me and pulled a small spoon from her pocket. She dipped it into the tea and sipped it from the tiny ladle that was on the end of it. She nodded almost immediately, letting me know that the tea was safe to consume.


"Did you presume to think that I would poison the Princess?" Ullerby looked annoyed with me again, his eyes narrowed and his tone less than friendly. 


"That is not what I think at all. It is just standard practice for me to have my staff test anything that wasn't prepared by my personal chefs to attendants. I meant no offense at all, Grandfather." I sipped from my own teacup for a moment before setting it down. I could tell that Ullerby was still very confused.
