Diya's Pov
It was a wednesday evening. I was getting ready for work, to which I'm already late. Today was already long with classes and assignments. I was tired, yet chose to work.
I'm a medical student and to not burden my single mother, I chose to work part-time to help her. She doesn't want me to work, but as a single child, it's my duty to help her.
This job is also a distraction for me from my past relationship. I was in love with Timothy. We were together for 3 years. He was my senior at my university. But his parents always hated me, because of my ethnicity. I'm a proud Indian national studying here. But his parents wanted him to marry one of those upper class American women. And when came a situation, between me and his parents, he chose them. It hurt a lot. My university friends never liked Timothy, and that day I understood why. He was never the Man for me. I'm not saying that he should have chosen me, but he could have at least tried . But him saying "let's breakup" hurt the most.
It was hard for the first couple of months, and that's when I started looking for part-time jobs to keep me distracted. I'm not those suicidal people, but I wanted a distraction. I would cry the whole night and go to university the next morning, as if nothing happened though my eyes were saying a different story.
I reached Kimy's bar, where I work as a part-time bartender. Ms. Kim was there at the entrance, speaking with a guy. When I crossed them, Ms. Kim stopped me. "You're late again", she said with a smile. I smiled back at her. She's the best boss one could ever ask for. Ms. Kim is one of those kind women who would take care of all the employees like her own kids.
"Diya, meet our new manager, Mr. Roberts. Roberts, This is Diya, our part-time bartender", she introduced us. I looked at him. His hazelnut eyes were like a dream.
He looked stunning in a light blue shirt and black pants. They complimented his warm ivory skin tone. "Hello Ms. Diya, your boss had said a lot about you, it's a pleasure to meet you", he said without breaking our eye contact.
I couldn't speak. I couldn't even blink. What the hell is this?. I have never felt like this. His eyes were so mesmerizing. I was trying so hard to speak, but I couldn't.
"Hey baby, you're here", said Sarah, walking towards us. Thanks to her loud voice, I was finally able to breathe. Sarah is my best friend. She is a waitress here. She is like my bodyguard, protecting me from those creepy guys you normally avoid at the bar.
"Let's go inside, and introduce everyone to Mr. Roberts", said Ms. Kim, walking in front of us. Roberts followed her. Sarah noticed me being painfully awkward.
"So, who's this guy?", she asked dragging me into the bar. "New manager" I said watching him walking a few steps Infront of me. " I hope he is cool" Sarah said as we went into the staff's changing room.
