Chapter 96: Orion

"No, I want to hear you. I've been trapped in my own head all week." Orion scooted closer, his arm extended along the back of the seat.

Jennifer reached for his hand, clasping it tightly.

"I'm sorry," she whispered.

Those two words soothed the rawest edges.

"Why? Why didn't you get someone to help?" He didn't understand this one point.

"Uwe said he had more stuff on Milan and something on you. I just... I thought a solution would come to me if I gave myself enough time."

"Even if that's what you decided to do, you could have told me. And if not me, someone else. Your friends, at least."

"I didn't want to get you involved," she blurted.

"Okay, but whose watching your back? No one. That's too big a risk, Jenn."

He knew his words got to her because she didn't have anything to say in return. Not a damn thing.

"Promise me one thing?" he asked.

"What?"

"When this is over, you'll come spend a week at Luxe as a guest?"

She chuckled. "I don't know if I can afford those prices."
