LUMEN STARED UP AT the stars while the hammock swung gently back and forth.


It was peaceful what with everyone out listening to Sonny speak tonight. Max had gone along with some of the men in their family tree, giving her some much needed space. Not that she'd realized that until he'd gone.


That was the thing. Most people annoyed her to some degree eventually, Max never had. She'd co-existed with him when every other person rubbed her the wrong way. She found herself missing that ability to share space with someone.


They'd agreed to wait to figure themselves out decisions until after this job was done, but the way things were going she didn't think a conversation could wait. She was in far too deep with Max.
