Growing Closer

“Slaton, I need to head into town and pick up some things.” Pleased that she had felt good enough again to make breakfast this morning, Brenna took another bite of the French toast she had made. Tahnee was still sleeping. Grey had said she was up all night reading some material that might help them. Brenna had enjoyed being in charge of the kitchen. She was a very good cook, but rarely got the chance to put it into practice.

“I can go get it for you.” He knew she wanted to go with him, but he shook his head no.

She asked, “Why can’t I go with you?”

He stopped eating and pinned her with his eyes. “It’s not safe.”

Brenna turned to Tahnee, who had just walked in the kitchen, for help.

She nodded toward Brenna as she moved to the coffeemaker. “Brenna’s right. There is no reason for her not to go.”
