He rushed over to her. He wanted to take her hand but her arms were under layers of warm blankets that were pulled all the way up to her chin. A warm towel was even wrapped around her head, and an infrared heat lamp sent warmth throughout her body.
He sat on the bed next to her and kissed her forehead. The cold he felt tore at his heart. He couldn’t believe she was still alive.
Tahnee and Grey followed but stayed back to give Slaton time to get a grip on his emotions. Tahnee could feel Slaton’s rage and concern fighting with each other. She knew he would have trouble with it.
After a few minutes, Tahnee walked over and put her hand on Slaton’s shoulder. He never took his eyes off Brenna. He appreciated his mother being there, but at the moment all he wanted was the woman whose eyes were closed. He only moved when the doctor walked in.
