Layford ran the entire way back to the women only slowing down through the narrow sections of the stone tunnel. With the light directed ahead of him, he had no trouble getting back in less time than he did with the initial exploration. The goal was not to find a new passage or chamber. It was to get back and share the news. He burst into the chamber where he had left the women and was breathing heavy. A large smile was plastered on his face. His hair fell in his face as he came to an abrupt halt.
His breath came out in a gasp as he said, “Let’s move.”
Miakoda stood up when she first heard Layford’s hurried steps. Fear gripped her as she listened to the pace of his movements through the tunnel. Moving that fast couldn’t mean anything good in her mind. Even the look of him running in, scared her with the light giving him and the room an eerie glow and his hair disheveled.
