Miakoda and Layford quickly made their way to the new tunnel after leaving Brenna in the chamber. Twice, Miakoda looked back expecting Brenna to be there. Leaving the woman behind weighed on her. She frowned as she followed Layford down the stone corridor.
“Are you sure she’ll be okay?”
He looked over his shoulder and flashed her a smile. “She’s in the chamber. Brenna should be protected, or that is what she says. We have to trust her on this.”
“I guess.” Miakoda tried to look confident as she followed him down the tunnel.
As they approached the area where he had found the candles, he stopped and pointed it out to Miakoda. She moved her lit candle into the hole and looked it over. It was only a few feet deep though it was as tall as herself. She crawled all the way into it and held the candle up to look around. The light sent shadows dancing on the rock as she examined the chiseled walls.
