Chapter 2: Father's day

~6 years have passed ~

The month of June. It's a sunny day. Mahi is in the middle of his class sitting next to the window. He's looking gloomy. Something seems to be off. 

He's looking outside the window. A bird nest. The mommy bird is feeding the baby bird while the dad is guarding it. 

~Before class ~

Mahi was sitting in his seat. His friends were chatting.

"You know today I'm going to the amusement park with my dad. He said he would give me anything I want." A kid said, his tone cheerful.

"Wow!! That's so cool. My dad and I are going to visit my grandpa tonight. It will be fun!" Another kid giggled.

The first kid laughed at this. "Yeah, that'll be fun. I miss my grandma too."

Then the second kid turned to Mahi, "Oii, Mahi!! What about your father?"?

Startled, Mahi turned into his friend.

"F  father … Why do you ask?" He gulped.

"You don't know today is fathers day! What are you going to do with your father today?" the second kid said in an upper tone.

Mahi never saw his father so he never got a chance to celebrate this day. He wasn't aware of it.

The first kid added, "Come to think of it, I never saw your father come to school. Only your Mother and the creepy auntie(Fuyumi) of yours come to pick you up."

Mahi couldn't answer their question. 

The teacher came - His friend went back to their seats. Leaving Mahi with so many questions on his head >_<

~After School ~

Mahi was waiting for his mother while his friends were taking their leave saying goodbye to him.

Mahi heard a familiar voice calling him, and it was Mahiru. She parted her arms to give Mahi a warm hug. Mahi jumped into her hug. 

Mahi! don't jump in like that. Now you're a big boy you should not behave like that.

Mom, are you tired? Mahi asked.

I'm fully charged now after hugging you. (Miharu insured smilingly) 

[ Mahi is like mama's boy. His friend often tease him by that but he seems not to be bothered ]

Mommy, you promised me you would buy me ice cream today! Mahi said it with googly eyes.

Yes of course my baby. (She couldn't say no to him) 

Mahi was enjoying his ice cream. 

"Your little brother is so cute" a voice came.

It was an old lady 

"He's my son actually," Miharu answered.

She was fine with the question because she faces the same question now and then. But the old lady was shocked by her word 

"How old are you dear ?"

"I am 24 now", she said straight into her face.

Miharu felt Uncomfortable. Miharu is on the way home along with little Mahi .

~Before Bed ~

Mahi knocked on his mom's room. He entered.

"Couldn't sleep, my darling, wanna sleep with mommy today? " 

Mahi slept beside his mother. 

"What happened ?" Miharu asked in a worried tone.

Mom, where are my daddy and my grandparents?

Miharu wasn't prepared for this question. She was crying. 

Mahi couldn't get it . Mahi hugged Miharu. 

After some time She wiped her eyes and said with a tumbled voice

"Your dad has gone so far that we cannot catch up with him and for your grandparents, they are doing well but mommy doesn't dare to stand in front of them. They really hate me very much"   

"Then I hate them" (Mahi and his childish thought)

"You will understand when you grow up, my baby"

Little Mahi fell asleep hugging his mother.
