I knew that dodging his attacks would soon become useless. As an Alpha I was sure that Jason was quick to learn tactics and adjust his own against them, I was the same in that aspect.
The second time I dodged his tackle I made sure not to get too cocky.
I knew that on the third time I would need to do something different, so I did. This time I went on the offensive, sliding under him as he jumped at him and elbowing him on the back as soon as I was behind him.
"Ugh." He grunted as he fell to the ground.
I thought I was fast enough to escape, but it seemed I was wrong.
Jason managed to quickly recover, pulling my ankle and dragging me towards him.
I kicked against his hand in an attempt to get free. At first I thought it wouldn't work, I knew he wouldn't be happy that his mate was kicking his ass on the sparring mat.
"You're fast." Jason said as he tried to pull me towards him, but I wouldn't give in. I kept kicking him.
"Fuck." Jason cursed suddenly letting me go.
'I guess we were kicking stronger than we thought.' Ares chuckled in my head.
'I guess so.' I said with a grin as I went on the offensive again, this time I threw a punch to his gut.
Unfortunately for me, my mate was strong and fast. He caught my wrist and suddenly growled.
"Enough." Jason said as he held me down. "I don't want to hurt you."
"Who said you can?" I asked him as I challenged his strength. As an Alpha like him, I didn't like to lose.
"Trust me, Amaya, if I fight back I will injure you." Jason told me as I saw a tender look cross his eyes.
'He is worried?' Ares asked in my head.
'Yeah, I guess he doesn't think we are strong enough.' I told her with a sigh.
"Amaya, stand down." Jason hissed. "I don't think you are weak, I just can't hurt you. I will lose."
I looked at him, unable to process his words.
"Amaya, I surrender, I concede." Jason said as he gave me a loving look, melting my heart.
"How?" I asked him as I wrapped my arms around him.
"How could I surrender? We both know Alphas don't like losing, but I'm willing to lose everything just for you." He said as he lifted my chin and kissed me.
"Okay guys." My brother, Merrick groaned as we forgot that there was another person in the room. "This was supposed to be a fight, now you are making out on my sparring mat." He complained, making Jason and I laugh at his words.
"Your sparring mat? Since when has this been your sparring mat?" I asked him as I eyed my brother suspiciously. He was hiding something from me.
"Well, Amaya, since you accepted your position as future Alpha of the Shadows Pack, that allows me to take on the role I actually want." My brother told me with a grin.
"Head Warrior? But how?" I asked, shocked that my father would even give him that position.
"Keith is stepping down." Merrick said as he smiled knowing I would understand what it meant.
"Before dad even steps down? Why?" I asked.
"Keith has sustained too many injuries over the years. He told dad that he felt like he couldn't keep up with his tasks anymore." Merrick explained to me.
The Head Warrior was like the pack's highest ranking general. His or her main focus would always be the safety of the pack as well as to train the future warriors of the pack.
They were also the ones that led the charge when it came to war, something most Alphas tried to avoid at all costs, but when it was needed they led.
Most Head Warriors didn't last long, they would either die in battle or retire early. An Alpha traditionally had two or more Head Warriors during their reign.
Things were different, however, when it came to Original Packs.
We were built differently and it took a lot to take the Head Warriors down, so it was rare to have a Head Warrior step down before their alpha passed on the title.
"What if I decided to pick you as my beta?" I asked my brother, frustrated that he and my dad had taken away that choice from me.
"We both know I can't be a beta or a gamma." My brother reminded me.
I knew Jason could feel my frustration as he pulled me close to him in an attempt to calm me down.
"Amaya, you know that when Alpha blood runs through your veins you can't take a beta or gamma position." Jason reminded me in a calm tone. His voice soothed the anger building up inside me.
'I like my mate's voice.' Ares purred in my head as if she were a cat.
'Weren't you seething just a moment ago?' I asked her. I could clearly feel her anger building up just moments ago, at least until Jason pulled us towards him.
"Your brother won't be able to do his job as your beta when he can challenge you at any moment, nor as gamma, and his descendants will also have a hard time following." Jason told me.
Of course I knew this, we were all taught this. Each had his or her own place and role in a pack and our bloodlines determined this more often than not.
I sighed and shook my head.
"There isn't even a guarantee that I'll be alpha." I reminded them. "And don't get me started on the succession issues, we both know that's going to be a problem."
"Not if we have twins." Jason said with a cheeky smile as I rolled my eyes at him.
"We should get back to the pack house." Merrick reminded us as he looked at the time. "You'll take forever to get ready."
"Shut up." I told Merrick as I glared at him.
"Let's go back to our room." Jason told me in a seductive tone.
"Oh no, I'm not going to be around for this." Merrick told us as he quickly dashed out of the training center, leaving me and my mate alone.
