"Alice! I want the documents on my desk in 5 minutes."
"Yes boss!"
"This is all?"
"Yes Mr. Harrison." He looked at me with a straight face and then looked back at the papers in his hand, with a long exhale he sent me out to continue doing my job.
"Survived?" That's my coworker Marry, she looks out after me, kinda-
"Yeah" letting out a relieved chuckle as I said that.
"My shift is ending, get home safely" with that being said, she packed her things and slipped into her coat.
"You too Marry"
I still had like 3 hours before I could go home and with that thought Mr. Harrison called me to his office.
A sigh escaped my mouth as I got up and swiftly walked over to his office door- knocking softly.
"Mr. Harrison?" I opened the door slowly and peeked in.
"What did I say about peeking in?" I chuckled at his comment and said "I'm sorry sir," I apologized,"you called?"
He looked at me and then pointed at the pile of papers on his desk. I wouldn't be joking if I said that my jaw almost dropped.
"I need this done till tomorrow's evening- it needs some editing"
With a smile on my face I picked up the paperwork heading back to my table, internally screaming.
As I got back to my workplace I put down the paperwork making a quiet loud thud.
I leaned over my desk 'It's okay, I can do this, it's not that much anyway' looking back at that huge pile of papers I couldn't help but whine.
"It's for the money, It's for the money-..." Quietly mumbling to myself I sat back onto my fake leathered, bumpy chair and started on my work.
.

.
"Alice, time to go home." My head shot up meeting none-expresional look from my boss.
"Oh, I'm sorry Mr. Harrison, I got carried away with the work"
"It's okay, get home safely."
"Yes sir, you too." With that, he was gone, and I slowly packed my things, not missing the time- "9pm?! already?"
Not wasting any minute I took on my heels, peacing my way home.

I rushed through the front door of my apartment, throwing my bag on the floor and yelling, "Dad! Mom! I'm home!" My words echoed through the empty apartment, silence. My heart began to race as I scanned the rooms, searching for any signs of my parents. I called out to them again and again, but there was no response.
Panic began to set in. I started to frantically run from room to room, opening doors, calling out for my parents. I looked in the living room, the kitchen, the bedrooms, but they were all empty, no signs of my parents. The only sound I could hear was my heart pounding strongly in my chest. I stopped my ramp and stood in front of my room with a hit of annoyance and realization showing on my face. I scoffed, "I am really going crazy, they are long gone."
Putting my back towards the door I slid down with knees to my chest.
I sat there for hours, lost in my thoughts. The feeling of panic slowly started to dissipate. I knew that I would never be the same again, but I also knew that nothing would change. With a deep sigh, I stood up and slowly walked to my room. I fell into my comfy bed feeling a weight on my shoulders slowly move away as I began to fall asleep.
I woke up to the sound of silence, the room still bathed in darkness."What time is it ?" Rubbing my eyes I looked to my side on the clock. "6 am…." wait 6am? Huh- Oh fuck Imma be late! With that I abruptly tore the blanket off of me. "That damn alarm is not working again!"
I shot out of bed and immediately tripped over my carpet, my heart racing as I stumbled and caught myself before I fell. "Well, this is off to a great start," I thought to myself. Not having time for breakfast I rushed to the bathroom and quickly brushed my teeth, ran a brush through my hair and put on clothes, not even bothering to match my socks. „No one will see them anyway." After that I put on my shoes running out of my apartment so I can catch my subway and get to work on time.
.
Luckily for me, I got here on time. When I got in it was quiet which was unusual because I normally walk into a zoo.
I head upstairs meeting Marry- sitting behind her desk per usual.
"Good morning." I said, startling her a little bit, but she shook it off and replied to me.
"Morning, we have a guest."
"Is that so?" Shuffling over to my table I put my things down and headed to Mr. Harrison's office.
I wiped my sweaty palms over my pants and knocked on the door.
As soon as I heard Mr.Harrison speak I walked into his office. It took me by surprise when I saw- well nothing. The sun wasn't up yet and Mr.Harrison didn't turn on a single light in his office.
"Who is she?" a deep and stern voice echoed through the room, I didn't recognise him. 'Who is he?' I thought.
"That's Miss Hadby, Alice. These are my guests today." Guests? As in plural? It was really hard to tell in the dark, but I noticed two other figures in the room.
"Nice to meet you mister-" I said with a smile.
"Colin, Colin McCanly" Although I couldn't see, his green eyes shined really brightly, it was mesmerizing. I guess I was staring for too long because he turned his back to me with an annoyed expression.
"Alice, you can go home earlier for today, just finish your work from yesterday and take Marry with you."
"Are you sure Mr.Harrison?" I asked, not wanting to appear ungrateful but also wanting to be sure that I didn't misheard.
"Yes, now go" Without another word, I gathered my things and headed out of his office, taking one last glance at the mysterious man as I walked out of the door. I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease, but I put it aside and focused on my work.
.
At that, I spend my day being dragged around shops by none other than Marry.
We had lunch together and later went to get drinks. We found a cozy bar and ordered a couple of them. Poor Marry couldn't hold her liquor well and she ended up getting pretty drunk, lucky for me her boyfriend came and got her wasted form. He thanked me for looking after her and helped her out to his car.
We parted ways and I headed home. It was already late at night so the streets were pretty much empty, just some cars here and there. All I could hear were my heels meeting the cold ground with every step I made.
From afar I finally began to see my apartment complex.
As I approached the front door, I noticed that the guard was once again dozing off. I chuckled to myself. I shook my head reaching for the door handle, only to be rudely pushed aside by a man entering before me, not bothering to even apologize.
I couldn't help, but scoff "How rude", but I quickly shrugged it off and made my way into the building.
Since the elevator was still out of order, I slogged up the stairs to the fifth floor, my legs finally bringing me to the door of my apartment. I dug through my bag, searching for my keys, a smile creeping across my face "Home sweet home". Taking the keys out of my bag I started meddling on opening my door. As I reached for the doorknob to my apartment, without a warning a hand closed down over my mouth and nose from behind, making me struggle to breathe. I dropped my keys from my grasp as I let out a muffled scream, my body going stiff with fear and panic.
I tried to kick and punch, break free from the grip that held me so tightly, but to no avail. Tears began to stream down my face. My vision was getting darker and darker with every attempt of escaping and my mind clouded over with fear.
I thought of screaming or running, but my body just wouldn't listen to me, with these thoughts my mind went blank and I couldn't remember anything after.
