Chapter 79

"Oh… Okay, then," Jace replied.

"Anyway," Lorelei picked up the conversation again. "Let's go inside. We'll be disturbing our neighbors if we continue to dispute here."

Lorelei was about to head back inside, expecting her friends and Jace to follow her, but Amari stopped her.

"No need for that, Lei. Hehe," Amari said and then turned her head lightly in Sam's direction. "I think I need to head out now anyway," she gave Lorelei a small smile, hoping that the girl would buy it.

"Huh?" Lorelei cocked her head with furrowed brows. "But you just got here!"

"Oh, yeah. You're right. I just did, but," Amari was fumbling with her fingers while averting her eyes, "I just remembered that I had something to do."

The girl didn't look like she was buying, so Amari dashed back inside and hurriedly grabbed her bag.

"I'll be heading out now, then. Bye!" she scrammed away without even wearing her shoes properly.
