Chapter 53: Root Of All Misunderstandings

As the door hinges creaked ominously in the dark corridor, and with no place to run or hide, I could only do the next best thing.

"Gyah! Why are you clinging to me all of sudden!? Where's your pride!?" Darryl yelps as I wrapped my arms around him like a koala does around a tree bark.

"You ass— As if I have any place left to hide! If anything happens, I'll throw you down and make a dash for it with Sol in tow!" I groaned as I squeezed him tighter.

"Even if you were going to use me as a meat shield, you'd need to release me first!" Darryl yelled as he tried shoving my face away, causing my hands to slip as I lost my grip on his shoulders.

"I thought I heard something..." a rather familiar voice said as I was blinded from the sudden light that escaped through the slightly parted door.
