Running From The Scythe

Continuing Niall's POV:

"M-Meynard!" Lamia's voice chocked out. Her body started to fall towards the fire but I caught her in enough time. I gently lowered her to the floor. My eyes glanced into hers as I remembered... even if this woman is a bloodsucking monster... I still loved her. I grasped her hand as I yanked out the knife from her back. What have I done? I threw the knife away from us.

"Lamia," I whispered gently. It was interrupted as the door came off its hinges. Meynard had kicked it down. He glared in at me as his arm started to morph. His skin reshaped into a strong blade of a scythe. It was horrifying to see once again. My teeth clenched. I'm not like vampires... if he chops my limbs off I will die. I have to be careful. He doesn't have emotions. He only knows to protect Lamia without hesitation.

"What have you done?" He asked. His eyes held confusion. Since Lamia told him once before he couldn't kill me. He was hesitating to make sure he wouldn't regret his next move.

Relax.... Relax... How could Lamia let me kill her so easily? She's alive. She's alive and healing now.

"Lamia get up," I urged. "Stop faking this." Be serious Lamia. I looked her over as she grinned and spit out blood. I felt a longing urge to comfort her. Did I really just kill her so quickly?

How could I do that to her?

.

.

.

That's right... her taste for my kind and my bloodline,,, Is the reason why I have to defend myself.... I have to save what's left of my family. I have to kill her to become human. I have to show where my loyalties are.

"Lamia!" I yelled. I shook her as she started to close her eyes.

"Kill him," she ordered. "He harmed your mistress, Meynard," she said as she squeezed her eyes closed. Is she not going to watch this!? I looked up at Meynard and placed my hand tightly on Lamia's neck to crush her neck. I squeezed and watched as Meynard couldn't move towards me.

"Come here and I will snap it," I told him. Lamia opened her eyes in surprise. There wasn't pain at first for her... but then she showed frustration.

"Meynard kill him," she ordered. Meynard of course couldn't move towards me. I held the trump card.

"Mistress," Meynard muttered. "I can't."

"Meynard," she growled out. "Kill him or face severe punishment."

"You'll get hurt if I come closer," Meynard told her.

I chuckled.

"He's right," I told her as I looked down at her chest. So, as my suspicions are correct... I looked at the dry floor underneath her. She's been healing while I've been distracted.

"Kill him," she ordered. "NOW!" She commanded. "I will be fine." Meynard sighed heavily before raising his arm and started walking towards me.

"As you wish," he whispered. I yanked her up and pulled her up against my chest as a shield. I took her to my feet quickly and forced her to stay against me.

"Meynard," I said in a warning tone. "Come on now... You don't want to hurt Lamia, do you?" I asked. I kept a firm grip on her neck incase she tried to bite me, I kept her far enough from my body.

"Meynard, if you have to slice my arm off to get to him, do it," Lamia ordered.

This crazy bitch!

"Ma'am." Meynard stepped forward and swung his scythe arm. It was coming straight towards my arm holding her waist. I dodged his swing by a mere inch as I stepped back. I pulled Lamia's weight with me. She wasn't making this easy on me. Her body going dead limp. This was amusement to her. Maybe she was still recovering eternally. Usually she loved this kind of blood shed.

Think think... Meynard will not listen to me unless I have a good reason to make him stop.

I took Lamia with me as I backed away from Meynard. Each step he swung his arm at us to try to cut my arm off. I dodged each blow in a timing manner. This is going to cut short. The room is only so long...

"Kill him!" Lamia growled. I smirked as I thought of something. I waited until he started to swing again. I threw her body straight at him and shifted into my wolf form. I heard her scream as she hit his blade. Her blood smeared across the floor.

"Milady," Meynard said in surprise.

"GO AFTER AND KILL HIM!" Lamia ordered. I could hear here coughing up blood. I already started to sneak out of the room. Her finger pointing at me. Meynard had cut into her neck and it was pouring into the floor. But, her vampire abilities included healing. So the wound would be closed before she lost too much blood. I have to figure out a way to kill Meynard if I want to come back and finish her off.

"Yes.... with pleasure," Meynard said. I'm sure he's been wanting to get rid of me ever since I've been here. Meynard was an old fart. He didn't like me as much as I didn't for him.

I ran for it quickly. My mind linking into one thing. I have to grab Cole and get him the fuck out of here. I can't let him die in either of their hands. I'll come back when he's safe and kill them.

I took off down the decaying halls. Missing the holes already in the ground. I was fast as I tracked down my brother's scent. This was something Meynard lacked. Speed. He was very much slow. So I will be able to skip around him and find my brother easily.

Cole was still healing from his last failed attempt at escaping.

What was the last thing I said to my little brother?

That's right it was so awful Those words I said to him wasn't me! I love him truly... Meynard hurting my family brought out the worst in me. I was on the brink of loosing my mind when I found Meynard hunting my brother down. That's also the day I lost Calcifer. I was so caught up in saving one of them I forgot about the other.

"Cole!" I called out as I reached his bedroom door. I transformed back into a human and entered it quickly. He was currently being watched by Andrew. "Andrew?" I asked as I stared them both down. Andrew was changing bandages on Cole's leg when they both looked up at me.

"What?" Cole growled out. He hasn't seen me since the.... accident.

"GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!" I ordered. "RUN!" I yelled. "Andrew sneak my brother out of here," I ordered.

"What?" Cole asked and his face was full on confusion. "What did you just?"

"Oh fuck," Andrew muttered as he dropped the bandage he was wrapping over Cole's leg and suddenly grabbed his arm to yank him off the bed. "Your brother means it," he said.

"NIALL!" I heard Lamia's voice booming through the castle.

"No time to explain," I told them as I started back to the door. "Get out safely. I'll keep Meynard distracted this time."

"You mean he's on our side?" Cole whispered to Andrew in suspicion.

"Let's just go.... And Niall," Andrew called out to me. "Find out where Eder is being kept and wake him up." Wake him up? Eder is supposed to be dead? Lamia was serious when she meant she'd never kill him for me... Of course she was serious... Lamia wouldn't kill her favorite toy that easily. He's the whole reason she's allowed to reign in this region. He lets her do whatever she pleases. Fuck If I would wake him up. "Please, Niall. He wants to help," Andrew told me. "Cole," he whispered to my brother. "Transform and when we start running don't stop," he told him. Andrew didn't seem this intelligent when I first met him. This must be why Eder and Lamia fought to keep him alive or even employed here. Lamia hates everyone. She was so tight about letting people in here... this castle is falling apart because of her.

I left the room first.

If I was Lamia where would I hide my sleeping husband?

The moment I stepped into the hall I smelled Meynard's scent. He was searching room to room and was in the next one over. I transformed into my wolf again. The moment my paws hit the ground I was confronted by Meynard. He had stepped back into the hall and now we were facing each other. He smirked and swung his blade towards me. His footsteps quickening their pace as he swung and stepped after me. I growled and avoided each swing until a chance for me to go under was provided. I slipped under the blade's arm and through the opening. He let me slip by where he was unguarded and I ran down the hall. My feet and heart pounding together.

I felt a rush. Running for my life was giving me energy I forgot I have in this form.

I ran as I smelled the rotten floors. I gagged on the air. My snout tracking where I need to go.

A howl broke my concentration. My feet sunk as I fell a floor down from where I had been. I missed a leap and fell through one of the common holes in the flooring. More importantly... I recognized that howl! Howls followed the first one. MY PACK! WHAT IS MY PACK DOING HERE?!

'COLE!' I yelled through our poor mind link. 'GO TO THE PACK! NUMBERS ARE SAFE!'

'NO SHIT!' Cole shot back at me. 'Why are they here?'

'The pack went rogue against your sister's wishes and they came here to kill Lamia,' I told him. 'Find your sister.'

'Nena?'

'Vivienne!'

I wanted to roll my eyes. Dumb ass. He better not disobey me and go looking for Nena anyway. I got back up and looked above my head to see Meynard looking down at me. He looked pissed as he tried to figure out a way to get down to me.

'Wake up Eder,' Cole's begging voice urged me.

If I woke up Eder now... how much help would he really be to us?! What has he done for the pack in the last several decades? He's let Lamia have her way this whole time! SCREW HIM!

I should have known she wouldn't kill him.

.

.

.

I'll do it for her.

If I was Lamia... I would hide his body in his bedroom. No one goes in there.... and they won't go in there if she tells everyone he died. That's the first place I should look. And, when I find him... I will kill him.
