He Never Was

Cora was fine. She was fine and she went through everything she practiced in a perfectly composed way. At least when Oliver was the one doing the questioning.

It was when the other lawyer, a man named Lawrence Gilder, began asking her things that she began to panic. She kept her composure though. She hadn't done anything wrong. She was the victim here.

"Miss Bailey, according to the police report filed, both you and Mr. McCarthy referred to each other as friends. Now you're claiming to be soulmates in a relationship?"

Cora had expected this but still wasn't emotionally prepared. She managed to stay outwardly calm though. She had practiced this.

"We are. We've been friends for over a year and only got into a relationship a few weeks ago."

"The timing seems awfully convenient. What made you suddenly change your mind? More than a year is a long time to know your soulmate without acting on it," Lawrence said slyly.
