Rescue (10)

Walking forwards, the group came across the ten zombies. Since they noticed the three, the zombies wouldn't let them go. It was either fight, or run away and take a longer route to the school. And the longer it took to get to the school, the harder it would be to save Johnathan's brother. So Johnathan and the others steeled their resolve and chose to fight them.

As the zombies were making their way towards them, the three took out their weapons. Since Johnathan and Danny had ate two crystals, they would take on the most. This left Ivan with only two to kill by himself, which wasn't too hard.

Once the zombies were fairly close to them, Johnathan took out a knife from the side of his bag and threw it at one of them. Since the zombies were close to them the knife hit it straight in the forehead, killing it. However the power generated from Johnathan's throw made the knife go threw its skull.

The other two did the same as Johnathan and threw their knives, killing two more of them. Danny's knife, like Johnathan's, did a lot of damage. Though it didn't go fully through, it went deeper than Ivan's, who only managed to get half of the blade through the zombies skull.

Now that there was seven zombies left, Johnathan sprinted forwards with the bat in hand and swung it downwards at a zombies head. With Johnathan eating two crystals, the zombies had no chance of surviving. Its skull was smashed to pieces which made Johnathan smiled widely. If he was this strong and could keep getting stronger like this, they didn't need to go and take shelter in a military base.

Though that might've been the safest option, he doubted they wouldn't know about the crystals. If he got a lot of crystals while being at the military's shelter, he would most likely need to give most if not all of it to them. Plus, there was no school, work or really any law you needed to worry about. Everyone was free to do what they wanted. The only thing they needed to do was survive, which was harder than it sounds. But if they do survive, they could live a life free from boring responsibilities.

Johnathan thinking this, got even more excited. With the thought of being free from adult burdens, he ran forwards, towards another zombies.

The zombie tried swiping its claw at Johnathan but he easily dodged it. Ducking his head he dodged the swing. Moving to the right, Johnathan grabbed the bat with two hands and swung it horizontally at the zombies head.

*SPLAT*

The zombies head got smashed into pieces.

While he was fighting the zombies, the other two weren't standing by. Ivan had already dealt with his second zombie by stabbing it in the head, while Danny was already on his third. And since Ivan had a easy time dealing with the zombies, he decided to help the other two out by killing a third one.

Killing his fourth zombie, Johnathan looked to his right to see that the other were already done killing the other ones and were already looking for crystals. Looking at the bat coated with blood, Johnathan wondered how sturdy it really was. After marveling at the sight of the sturdy bat, he walked towards the corpses of the zombies he killed and checked them for 'loot'.

Unluckily he had found nothing. It wasn't like he was going to eat the crystal, he was going to give it to Ivan. The stronger the group was, the more likely they would survive. So walking towards the other two, Johnathan told them about not finding anything.

"It's whatever. I already found one from one of my corpses and gave it to Ivan. We cant be too greedy and should be happy that we even got one"

"Oh, we got one. That's good. Now we will all have eaten two crystals"

"Yeah, Luckily Danny gave me one, or I would've had to wait a while. Anyways let me pop this in my mouth before we leave this place"

Hearing Ivan say that, the others stood in their spots watching as Ivan sat on the ground beside the dead bodies of the zombies and eat the crystal.

After eating it, Ivan felt little pain due to the resistance he got after the first crystal. Getting up Ivan had a wide smile. He felt invincible and happy that they would have an even higher chance now of completing their little rescue mission.

"Damn guys, this feels fucking amazing"

""We know""

Both Johnathan and Danny responded at the same time with wide smiles on their faces. With how they were going, they believed that in the future they would be unstoppable. It was childish but which kid has never dreamt off being the strongest in the world like comic superheroes. Now that crystals that improve their strength is a thing, that dream isn't some dream anymore. It's very plausible that with enough crystals, they could become the strongest in the world.

But that was still far ahead of them, so with that in mind the three continued their way towards the school. They continued to walk through the neighborhood and by the time they made it to the school, they had already killed fifteen zombies.

The group had come across five more zombies on their way to the school and they happily killed them. Unluckily for everyone, they got no crystals. It was truly a wonder how they had gotten so lucky in the beginning. They had always gotten at least one from a group of zombies they killed so when they got none from the last five, they finally realized how rare they must've been.

However, that didn't bring them down. They were already satisfied with their strength. But more never hurt anyone. With that in mind, the three sneakily walked up to the schools gates. What they saw hadn't shocked them. It was a school with a thousand kids, so they knew hundreds of of them would be turned or completely dead. But since the fence they were going to jump had a portable classroom blocking most of the zombies' view, they didn't hesitate in jumping it.

*Hup*

With an inhale of breath, Johnathan and the other two jumped over the fairly large fence. With their new found strength, they had long found out the new height they could jump to. And if they were right and the spot they used to the roof when they still attended the school was still there, the three could get to the roof in a short amount of time.

AN: The rescue arc is almost done. It could've been shorter but there wouldn't have been ass much detail so I hope you guys have liked it so far.
