Escape (2)

"So, Johnathan how come you didn't use the bat or knife. You would've had an easier time"

"It would've broken. It's just wood and I doubt it would last if I used my full strength to hit the zombie with it"

Explaining the Danny why he didn't use the bat or any weapon while walking over to the dead bodies, Johnathan wondered how his strength increased. He wasn't dumb, and he easily realized that his strength during the fight was a lot stronger than the ones before, even after the fourth crystal.

However, he put that to the back of his head and started searching for crystals. At the end of their search, they had only found one. The one they found, however, looked different from the ones they previously had.

The crystal was more... rounded and a lot bigger. The crystal also had a different color, a mix between red and purple. Looking at the magenta-colored crystal, the boys looked at each other, wondering who would be the one to eat the crystal from the strengthened zombie.

"So... who gets the crystal"

Ivan had finally asked what they were all thinking. Who would be the one to get it? Danny already had a wonderful ability to fight the zombies off. Ivan and Johnathan, however, had more trouble because of their pitiable amount of mana. So it wasn't hard to guess which of the three would be out of the question.

"Figure it out between the two of you. I'm already strong enough to fight the zombies off, but you guys have too much trouble"

Understanding that the other two had a harder time fighting off the strengthened zombies, Danny stepped down and let them decide between the two of them.

Which power was more useful? Stopping time or being able to shoot lightning from behind and stun them? They both knew stopping time was a lot better and useful in dire situations, but if Ivan had a bigger power upgrade, fighting zombies would become a lot easier. And for that reason, Johnathan also stepped down.

"You take it, Ivan. If your lightning gets stronger, not only would you be able to deal more damage and potentially kill them first shot, but also stun them for longer. Giving me and Danny an easier time to kill them"

Hesitantly, Ivan nodded his head, but before taking the pill from Johnathan he took out his extra one and gave it to him.

"Then at least take this one. It will at least help a little, even if it's not the big one"

Taking the bigger crystal out of his hand and replacing it with the smaller one, they looked at each other and smiled. They were glad that neither of them had been greedy. They all knew they wanted it for themselves, but they looked at the bigger picture.

One strong teammate won't assure survival. Only a team that has multiple strong and trustworthy people will stay alive. From all the zombie shows they've seen, they knew backstabbing will become a common thing. Especially when you can get superpowers and increase their strength with crystals.

As they were both going to pop the crystals in their mouth, a window from down the hall from where they came from broke. A zombie had pulled itself up and was attempting to enter the third floor.

Immediately, the two put their crystals away and sprinted down the stairs that were right in front of them. Not knowing whether there were more of them, they ran at full speeds.

As they were approaching the first floor, they heard footsteps going upwards. Having a bad feeling, Johnathan called out to them.

"Go, second floor now"

As he said that, they made their way to the second floor. Since they were close, it only took a few seconds to reach the entrance door to the second floor. Running through the door as quickly as they could, Johnathan kicked the doorstep away and closed it shut.

Not even a second later they heard growls and loud footsteps stop on the other side of the door. Putting his finger on his lips, Johnathan slowly walked away from the door and walked down the halls, aiming for the furthest classroom.

After a couple of seconds of walking down the halls, the zombies got agitated again and started banging on the door.

"Run"

Running as fast as they could to the classroom furthest down the hall, they heard as the door separating the stairwell and the second-floor burst open. Increasing their speed, they made it to the class and quickly shut the door.

With sweat running down their face, and their hearts beating out of their chests, they turned around and saw the mess that the zombies created.

Blood!

Blood was everywhere. Not only blood, but different organs and limbs. Johnathan gagged and was about to puke but he quickly got a hold of himself and moved as quickly as he could towards the teachers' desk. The others weren't faring any better, but they had to pull themselves together and help Johnathan. So after they calmed down, they quickly started moving towards the desks of the children.

They used their strength and moved the three desks, including the teacher, to the door. Hoping that would keep them at bay for a while, they dropped to the floor and took in deep breaths.

"What do we do now? We trapped ourselves in the class"

Hearing the stress and frustration in Danny's voice, Johnathan sighed and put his head down. 'It's my fault. If only I just came here myself, they wouldn't be in this situation.

Johnathan couldn't help but blame himself. It was his idea to come to the school after all.

Seeing the regret on Johnathan's face, Danny let out a sigh and told him it wasn't his fault. "It's not your fault, bro. We came with you, and there's no way we would've let you go by yourself. I'm just stressed".

"I know, but still"

"Quit crying and acting like a little bitch. I may have just found a way to escape"

Hearing the second half of what Ivan said, the two sat up straight and tried to listen as closely as they could to a plan that may or may not save them.
