With a wide grin, Angela spoke.
"I-"
Her answer was predictable. It was exactly like what happened with my friends and I. Her muscles and bones got stronger. She was breathing easier and her stamina seemed to increase.
Bruce and I nodded along. We expected this. After all, we both went through this experience. Daniela, on the other hand, was listening with wide eyes. She clearly looked eager to eat one. 'I guess we'll have to get her one soon.'
"That's good. Now you'll have an easier time fighting the zombies off.
What changed with you, Bruce?"
Bruce smiled as wide as he could and started explaining.
"I got my power. After I ate the crystal, I felt the energy getting pulled towards my stomach area. It formed a core and once that was done, I knew what ability I had."
"What's the ability?" Impatient, Daniela asked.
"Enhancement."
We all gave a look that said "go on."
"I'm able to enhance my body. I also think I'd be able to enhance something like a sword or gun. But I don't know yet."
"That's a good ability."I voiced my opinion.
Although it wasn't as strong in its initial stages as Ivan's and Emma's. It had the potential to be terrifying.
Just the thought of enhancing yourself to the point of being able to break mountains was scary. Plus, if he could target different enhancements, he could end up being one of the strongest.
For example, enhancing his healing factor. If he has a lighter core and enough mana, he'd probably be able to regrow limbs.
'That's just a thought, though.'
"I call the energy mana. Also, make sure you don't use your ability too much. If you do, you'll be stuck having to meditate to regain it."
Bruce said nothing, but nodded. He looked deep in thought.
"How about this? Try your power out now and if you waste too much mana, I'll drive while you recover it."
A smile appeared on his face before he lifted his arm, walked to a zombie's body, and smashed it down. The fist went halfway through the Tier 2s body.
'Pretty good. I wonder how strong his punch would be if he used mana on top of his power? I guess I'll teach him some stuff.'
"How much mana did you use?"
"Around a quarter."
"Not bad. Anyway. Let's leave this place. We still got some ways before we get there."
We got up and left for the car.
I got in the driver's seat, and Bruce sat beside me. After another twenty minutes of driving straight with some right and left turns, we were near the warehouse.
However, I stopped a couple of hundred meters away. I didn't want to alert any zombies I was near.
We all recovered our energy and made sure we were at the top of our game. I made sure all my clips were fully loaded before stepping anywhere near the place.
The other did the same.
Once we were positive we had everything ready, we walked to the factory. It didn't take long to get there. Only around a ten-minute walk.
After arriving and a brick wall, we counted down from three and jumped over.
We learned how to land as quietly as we could, and that's what we did.
Silently landing, we ran towards a generator for cover. "Fuck."
I silently cursed.
The others also had sour expressions.
'This whole fucking place is filled with zombies. How the fuck are we supposed to complete this mission? Should I just fucking escape?'
The whole place was filled with zombies. Not just any. Tier fucking 2s and 3s. I couldn't only spot a few tiers 1s.
"What do we do?"
Daniela asked, clearly shaken up by how many monsters were around us.
"I-."
I wanted to tell them we should leave, but what would happen to our close friends and family? If I left, would they punish Ash? 'No, how would they even find out?'
"Let's go do the mission. Outside, there's around a hundred. Which should be manageable if we use the explosives we have."
Bruce was right. However, would I want to risk it?
"Sounds good."
The other easily agreed, and now they were looking at me. 'Fuck.'
"I-fine. We'll follow your plan. However, if nothing works, we run. Let's ask for reinforcements first, though. I'll contact the sergeant."
They said nothing and nodded their heads.
I took out the walkie-talkie and spoke.
"Sergeant, there's way too many zombies here for only four people. We need more men. There's around 100 monsters here."
[Ok. Try to take out as many as you can. I'll send some people there as fast I can.]
The call was short.
'If anything, I'll just ditch them. I can't die here.'
I put away the walkie-talkie and zipped open the bag Angela was carrying and took out a grenade. I pulled the pin and whipped it forwards. When it hit the ground, the zombies near it, gathered around it.
*Boom
The grenade exploded, killing the fifteen zombies near it.
With just one grenade, only around 85 zombies were left.
The others followed my lead and threw the grenades in different areas, killing another twenty.
Only 65 zombies were left. At least from what we counted.
I threw another grenade towards a crowd, but it seemed like they got smarter. Instead of getting near it, they ran. Nevertheless, they weren't all fast enough to our run a grenade. I ended up killing four-five more, leaving 60 left.
"I don't think that'll work anymore."
The Tier 3s were looking in our direction and even made eye contact with me.
That's when it started sprinting at us.
"Fuck it. Get in posturing and shoot these fuckers."
I got up and walked out into the zombies' view. I aimed my gun, which was enhanced with mana, and started firing.
After months of training, my aim was incredible. But it was still far from perfect. I hit just as many body shots as I did headshots.
Slowly, with our combined efforts, the zombies started falling. I'm the first five minutes 30 zombies fell.
*click
I ran out of ammo. So, with a blood-crazed smile on my face, I ran towards the army of zombies running at me.
I took out my deagles while my squad mates looked at me with wide eyes.
I aimed my barrels at the zombie in front of me and blew its head off. To save some mana, I killed the next one using martial arts.
When it was close, I sprinted at it and jumped. In mid-air, I turned around and hit its head with the back on my food.
I used a good amount of mana. So when half of its heads got destroyed, I didn't bat an eye.
After killing two more with bullets, I used time stop to move back to my team, who have already finished reloading.
Since I was still close to them, I only used half a second worth of mana.
When they saw I was near them, they started spraying their guns. This gave me some time to reload and join them.
However, it didn't look good for us. We took out most of them, but the zombies were too close.
'What should we do? Reinforcement won't be here for a while and if we jump over the fence, the zombies would just ram through it.'
That's when I thought of something.
