"Sean told me what happened. Are you okay?" Jax asked.
My steps faltered. What, exactly, had Sean told him? That Ivy was still threatening to transfer the bond to Jax and force him to change me? That I'd developed magical powers and flung Ivy into a wall? Or that my father was in the hospital and I flew across the country?
"How's your dad?" Jax asked.
Okay, so that's what he knows. I pushed open the door and was grateful to see the waiting room was empty. I slouched into a chair and exhaled deeply.
"He's okay," I said. "The surgery went well, and the doctors say he'll make a full recovery. I'm here now and - "
"You're there?" he shouted. "Chloe, what were you thinking? You can't take off like that. It's not safe."
I gritted my teeth. I was so fed up with everyone telling me I couldn't do things because it wasn't safe. "Of course, I'm here. He's my father, Jax. I wasn't not going to come see him. And don't worry. I'm not alone. Whitney came with me."
