The wedding at the courthouse had been short. Only Sara’s mother and her sister attended as witnesses. Roy’s parents didn’t come because a cow decided to calf that day and it looked to be a difficult birth.
Sara’s mother had surprised her and bought her a travel suit to be her wedding dress. It was a dark grey and was brand new. When she had opened the box to find it, Sara’s breath had caught in her chest. It was the first new outfit from a store she had ever possessed. Tears pricked at her eyes that her mother had actually spent money for it. Her mother had walked out and would not discuss the dress. That would be sentimental, and she had no use for that.
The Justice of the Peace was a nice man and helped her ease her nervousness. Ron was handsome in his suit. A part of her had wished that he had worn his uniform to remind her of the first time they had met.
