Sara - Wonder

“Is…is he alright?” Sara had never seen a newborn and feared the worst with all the blood and screaming.

“Oh, she is alright.” Cynthia picked up one of the washcloths she had gotten wet earlier and used it to wipe the baby off. “She is perfectly alright.”

“Are you sure?”

“Absolutely.” Cynthia picked up the baby and laid her in Sara’s arms. “Now hold her and give one last push. Then I can clean the new mother up.”

Sara looked down at the small bundle in her arms that scrunched its face at her. The baby seemed mad.

“Push,” Cynthia demanded as she pushed on Sara’s stomach.

Sara complied and held the baby close. While her mother tended to her, Sara watched her baby with fascination. The baby quieted and squirmed. Sara pulled her close and watched as a sense of contentment floated over the baby’s features.
