Sara - A Search for Peace

Leaning against the doorframe, Sara wiped the sweat from her brow. The cry from the other room pounded in her head. Another cry joined it. Tears pricked at her eyes.

Reluctantly, she pushed away from her prop and dropped the brush she had been using to clean the floors. Her steps were hesitant as she forced her feet to move toward the bedroom down the hallway.

Inside the room, the children screamed. Mary stood up in the crib. Her face twisted in anger. Erick flung his arms and legs as he bellowed from the basinet. Sara fought back the tears. She wanted to join them in their freedom to express their feelings.

The baby needed his diaper changed. Mary was just cranky from more teeth coming in and her brother’s incessant cries. Erick cooed once he felt fresh. A smile full of drool beamed up at her. Sara sighed with relief and then picked up Mary.

“Hush, baby. I know it hurts.”
