A howl comes from close by, startling me. A boy emerges from the dark, misty woods. Except he wasn't a boy. He was unusually hairy. He was ruggedly handsome. His blue eyes glimmered in the moonlight.
"Hello? Hello there? Who are you?" I whisper, despite my better judgment.
"I'm Kyell. The alpha's son. Who are you?" He asks.
"What alpha? Wait! Are you a werewolf? How? Why aren't you attacking me? Why are you here?" Kyell laughs.
"A common misconception. Werewolves only attack if they're threatened. And we don't kill humans for fun. That's a myth,"
"And yet you're here, existing," I comment. He laughs again.
"Yeah, I understand. It's been awhile since any werewolf has been seen, so we're thought of as myths,"
"I wonder why," I say, rolling my eyes.
"I really don't know either," he tells me.
"Maybe it's because the existence of your kind is impossible!" I say.
"Not impossible. Just unthinkable," he says.
"So, Kyell, how'd you make your way through the barrier?" I ask.
"It's the first blue moon in a century. That's when all magic fails," he explains. I should have known. All kinds of creatures are going to make their way into my world now. I've failed to keep the barrier monster-free. "Wait how do you know there's a barrier?" He asks.
"Just assumed there's some kind of magic keeping the myths in. You know, since there hasn't been a sighting in over a century," I provide.
"How do you know that?" He asks.
"It doesn't matter. Does anyone know you've crossed the border?" I demand.
"No. At least I don't think so. Why?" He questions.
"If anyone saw you, you could've started the war of the century," I tell him.
"What do you mean?" he asks, apparently not up to date on his history.
"There was this war between The Protectors of Demilia, or Earth, and all the creatures you could ever imagine, a little over a century ago. There was unbelievable destruction. The humans were fighting World War II at the time, so they really couldn't focus on all the supernatural storms. They just thought it was just some freak weather and it would pass. The greatest of The Protectors, Luna, the embodiment of The Moon, conjured the barrier. She along with the others, Ignacio, Kailani, Vayu, and Terra, vanquished the creatures to a place where they wouldn't cause destruction among the humans."
"And where exactly do you fit in that mess?" He asks.
"I'm Callisto. Daughter of Luna, The embodiment of The Moon."
