The fuming knight was at a loss for words. Everyone in the room was at a loss for words. The knights already heard the bad rumours of the new lord. They thought they could easily manipulate the new lord who would be ignorant like a child after losing his memories. Only then, they realized that the new lord actually turned out to be a sharp-tongued viper!
"Lo… Lord Senebres," Mylan who recovered from the shock first tried to calm Huvel, "I would like to apologize for…"
"Hey, Sir Mylan!" Huvel interrupted him before he could finish. His carefree voice from before was nowhere to be found. The tone of his voice was full of darkness and arrogance. "Do you intend to revolt?!"
"Re… revolt?! What are you saying, Lord Senebres?!"
Not only Mylan, but everyone in the room was shocked by Huvel's words. Revolting against a lord is a big sin. Even the families of the people involved in the revolt would be punish regardless of whether they were nobles or commoners.
"Lord of Boswel, I sincerely apologize on behalf of Sir Luz." It was Mylan who started talking. "He was away from his lord for a long time and forgot his mannerism. It was also a part of my fault for not guiding him well. Please punish me for this offense and quell your anger!"
Huvel stood up from his chair. He spoke in a tone furthest from warm. "Sir Mylan, do you think I'm fool? At first, you lots tried to harm my reputation using that bastard's rotten tongue. Now that he had failed, you want to hide the fact that you lots intend to harm my body as well?!"
"We have no such intension!"
"If you bare no evil scheme, why is there a dagger on that man's chest?!"
The room became silent again when Huvel said those words, pointing his finger at a knight next to Luc. While it was common courtesy for a knight to leave his weapons before entering his lord's office, it was a must to do when a knight was to visit a lord other than his liege. Entering the office of another lord with a hidden weapon could even mean an assassination attempt!
Huvel always had [Dark Shroud] casted around himself. With him using it too often, he could tell anything that passed through the barrier be it an object or a living thing. He, thus, smirked when the knight he pointed entered the room because he felt a metal object under his coat. Since he only had light clothes on him and was not wearing any armour, that metal should belong be a dagger, something he carried as a hidden weapon.
The knight must had forgotten to leave it in his room as he was too used to having it on him all the time and had not visited a higher-ranking nobleman for a long time. And it was their first time for the guards at his door so they did not dare to inspect the knights' bodies. Regardless of those peoples' mistakes, it worked in Huvel's favour as he decided to use that knight's offense to divert the attention of Karl's knighting.
Huvel expected the knights would deny until the very end and lose face when the truth came out. Though, by driving the knights to a corner like that, there was a chance that they might actually try to assassinate him on the spot. The knights that had experience in fighting monsters were definitely strong however, they still would not be a match for Huvel's 5th tier spells even if there were all eight of them. Huvel did not want to do the hard way but since he did not want to kill them, he planned to use his magic without anyone noticing to escape from them and play victim later.
With such plans in mind, Huvel waited to see what action the knights would take and readied himself to react to anything. However, the next incident took Huvel off guard.
Mylan jumped onto the knight Huvel pointed at and stripped his coat! He then found a short dagger in the inner pocket of the coat. He punched the knight two or three times before he ordered the other knights to detain him. The stunned knights finally came to their sense when Mylan ordered again loudly. The two guards outside came in as well and were confused by the scene.
Huvel watched the whole thing silently. He did not know what to say and just tried to figure out what Captain Mylan was planning.
Mylan picked up the dagger and passed it to Chance who still could not follow up to what was happening. He then lowered his head to Huvel.
"Lord Senebres, I am very sorry to have you witness this unsightly scene!" said Mylan without lifting his head. "I did not even notice Sir Timeo had a dagger on him until you said. I have failed you! I sincerely apologize you, Lord Senebres. I understand this is a great offense to you, the lord, so I will not ask for forgiveness. But I can guarantee you that Sir Timeo means no harm. As his superior, I would like to ask you to lessen his punishment and give it to me instead!"
Huvel stared at the bowing Mylan without saying anything. The air in the room was tense.
"Raise your head, Sir Mylan," Huvel finally broke the silence after pondering for some time. "You lots are knights of the Wall of Boswel. I hold no authority over you. However, since those two knights, Luc and Timeo, had offended me in the face, they must be punished. Lock them in the dungeon! I must write to their lords. And you, Sir Mylan, failed to educate them properly as their superior. Since you cannot be absent from your post, I'll decide your punishment later. As for the others, you can go back now. Don't tell anyone about this incident unless..., you want to make it becomes a far more serious matter!"
