Chapter 26: Burn It, Burn It With Fire!

Hogwarts Castle, Somewhere in the Scottish Highlands

November 23rd, 1992, 12:02 PM

"Fiendfyre!? You summoned Fiendfyre?"

Came Director Bones voice from his side. The woman had her wand out and was ready to cast, depending on Erik's answer.

"Yes, Director Bones. Do you remember what I said yesterday? That some pieces of magic can't be destroyed by normal means?"

"You don't mean that…"

Erik replied to Director Bones, and the woman didn't finish what she was saying, she was shocked with the answer.

'A Horcrux. That thing is a Horcrux!'

Erik gave a small nod without looking at her. He then tipped the hand that was holding the now identified piece of corrupted magic and dipped the 'thing' into the ball of living hell fire.

The piece of Horcrux let out a high pitched shriek and was consumed by the hungry flames, while Erik released the white tendrils from his blue magic circle.

The shriek made every person inside the office shiver, even the portraits were not spared of the feeling brought by it.

Erik then took his hand back, now empty of the 'thing' and canceled the magic circle. With a little concentration, the living ball of hungry fire, that had grown a little after the 'feeding', started to diminish in size. It was getting smaller, and smaller, until it got so small that it snuffed itself out. Erik then closed his hand and relaxed. The portraits of the old headmasters and headmistresses cheered and clapped at the great demonstration of control. Erik then looked at Director Bones and said.

"The only way to destroy the 'thing' is to send it into oblivion. The most readily available way to do it for humans is through the use of Fiendfyre or Basilisk's venom. Fiendfyre is the best choice available since I can control it and the thing was not physical."

Erik walked back to where Harry Potter was seated. The boy was still unconscious, but was having his bleeding forehead treated by Auror Tonks with a piece of gauze. Director Bones followed after him. Erik then retrieved a little flask from an inside pocket in his blazer that was closed with a dropper. He opened the flask and approached the dropper to the boy's scar.

"Move it, it is phoenix's tears."

Erik said to the Auror, who took the piece of gauze back, exposing the angry-red looking and bleeding cut to him where before was just a scar. He then let a drop drop from the dropper into the lightning shaped cut. The red around the cut immediately receded, the small bleeding stopped and the cut started to close slowly, until all that could be seen was a line of new pink skin in the shape of a lightning bolt in the boy's forehead. Erik closed the flask of phoenix's tear and guarded it back in his pocket.

"You can wake him up."

He said after taking some steps back. Director Bones, who still had her wand in hands, pointed it to the boy's body and casted the reviving spell.

"Rennervate!"

With no signal of the spell being fired, Harry Potter's eyes shot open and he looked around.

"It's done?"

Erik gave the boy a smile and answered.

"Yes, Mr. Potter, it is done."

The boy gave a big smile to all in the room.

"Thank you. I already feel… lighter."

He said and felt his hand being squeezed a little tighter by Professor McGonagall's hand.

"That would be a side effect of the removal of the piece of corrupted magic. Your mother's protection was holding it back, but it was always constantly consuming a little of your magic energy to help do it. Now that it doesn't have anything to hold back anymore, it will stay dormant, and it will not strain your magic energy anymore."

Erik explained to the boy. Harry Potter then cocked his head to the side and asked a question.

"I still have my mum's protection then?"

Erik smiled at the boy and replied to him.

"Yes, Mr. Potter, you still have your mother's protection. You can say that it is sleeping now. Dormant, but ready to defend again. It will stay with you until you reach adulthood, like a mother protecting her son until he can do it himself."

The boy smiled at that and a lone tear rolled from the corner of his eye. Professor McGonagall then pulled the boy into a hug again.

"That being said, Mr. Potter, you will face some difficulties during the next few weeks. Your magic will be stronger than it usually is, now that it has nothing holding it back. So you will have to relearn how to control it, lest you cast a stinging hex and tear a piece of your friends."

Erik said and the boy nodded from inside his Professor's hug. He could do that, control his magic, and he could get used to that too, to hugs he meant. Erik then continued to talk to him.

"My suggestion to you now is that as soon as you finish your lunch, you go directly to the infirmary and ask Madam Pomfrey for a full checkup, and to get Professor McGonagall to go with you."

"Infirmary? But ain't I alright now?"

The boy asked with a little confusion showing in his eyes.

"In a way, you are, Mr Potter. But now that that 'thing' is removed and there's still some effects from the phoenix's tear in your blood, is the best moment to address some of the other problems that I found in your body during my exam."

Erik explained. Harry Potter's body stiffened, and Professor McGonagall felt it. She then asked, letting slip the change in the boy's form of addressing.

"What's wrong with Harry's body, Lord Ravenclaw?"

Erik gave a hard look to the Professor and the boy, and answered.

"Let's just say that he didn't have the best of the homes and it left its own mark in him. Anything more you would have to ask him to tell you."

The Professor gave a firm nod back and let go of the hug, and looked at Harry. Looking directly at the boy's eyes. What she saw there was enough, and she looked back at Erik.

"Will you be needing us for anything more, Lord Ravenclaw?"

Professor McGonagall asked. Erik shook his head and replied.

"No, we are finished here. You two are free to go."

The Professor nodded and got up. She looked at Harry and called him.

"Come on, Mr. Potter. Let's go visit Madam Pomfrey immediately. I will ask a house-elf to prepare lunch for us there."

The boy nodded weakly and got up, following his Professor. He then turned back to where Erik was standing with Director Bones.

"Thank you, for all."

He thanked while giving Erik a wide smile. Erik smiled back.

"Your welcome, Mr. Potter. Ah, if you want to learn magecraft, I suggest that you sharpen your studies in math, physics and chemistry, and get to study arithmancy and runes in your next year. There will be new books available in the library soon that explain more about it."

Erik said. Harry Potter nodded, already imagining his best girl friend's reaction at his mention of new books in the library, and was guided out of the office by Professor McGonagall.

Director Bone waited for the duo to exit and close the door of the office, and turned to Erik. She then asked with some steel in her voice.

"The boy was a Horcrux?"

"Yes, and no."

Erik answered.

"What do you mean?"

"Yes, that 'thing' was an attempt to make a Horcrux, a seed to it. And no, the boy was not a Horcrux. The protection created by his mother blocked the seed from taking hold and 'germinating'. If the protection was any weaker than it is, the seed would take hold, and the removal of it would be infinitely more complicated."

Erik explained to Amelia. Auror Tonks didn't catch the meaning

"More complicated as in…?"

"The easy way? Complete destruction of the Horcrux, which means the boy's death. The complicated one? Have Tom Riddle cast a killing curse on him and pray that he is lucky."

Erik replied nonchalantly. Director Bones and Auror Tonks blanched at the answer. Even Auror Moody was bothered a little by it. Erik waved his hand and the center table, that was moved early out of the way, went back to its original position.

Auror Moody chose that time of momentary silence to speak.

"Director Bones, I must have just found one of the targets to the blood items."

Director Bones looked at her Auror with an intrigued face. It soon morphed into realization.

"The Potter boy?"

"Ay. One of the items, the one wheezing colored smoke, had the color of the smoke change while Lord Ravenclaw was removing the… 'thing' from the lad's head. It went back to its normal color after he applied the phoenix's tear."

Auror Moody said. His magic eye had caught the change of color in the smoke that the silver knick-knack was producing. He didn't say anything at the time to not alert the not involved people. Director Bones nodded at her Auror, and barked an order.

"Pack everything that matches the signature of the boy's blood in the same box. We will check it later."

Auror Moody called for his Trainee and, together, they started to organize the knick-knacks into different boxes. Erik moved to the center table and took all the files that he was reading earlier in his hands. He then went to the cabinet file and put them in the right drawer, closing it safely after. He turned to Director Bones and walked to her, extending his hand to her.

"Amelia, I have a staff meeting in a little more than half an hour, we will have to separate here today. The office's fireplace is open to you today. The password for incoming travels is 'Founder's rules', be free to use the Pensieve here to review those memories."

Director Bones accepted Erik's hand and shook it firmly.

"I will take the offer, Erik. Good luck with your meeting."

"Thank you Amelia, I will need it. And it is not even the last meeting of the day. I have an urgent one with the Board of Governors this evening. That will be the worst one."

Erik made an ugly face, remembering the mess that the Board of Governors made of the school's fund. They let go of their hands and Erik walked to the door of the office.

"And Amelia, make sure to go to sleep today. The Dragon Fruit juice will hit you hard. Have a nice day, and if you need anything, don't be a stranger."

He said to Director Bones, who nodded at him. Erik then exited the office and went down the stairs. He soon passed by 'Greg', which had already moved aside, and met, again, with the 'old boy' Dumbledore waiting outside. The Gargoyle statue quickly moved into place again. Erik turned to walk down the corridor, but was interrupted by Dumbledore calling him.

"Lord Ravenclaw, I need to talk with you."

Erik stopped, and took a deep breath.

"Walk with me, Mr. Dumbledore."

He said and started to walk at a slow pace down the corridor. Dumbledore quickened his steps and caught Erik.

"I was spectating a more private talk, Lord Ravenclaw."

"Don't worry about the children listening to the talk, they will not hear anything."

Dumbledore looked at Erik, and talked.

"I think that we started things with the wrong foot yesterday, Lord Ravenclaw."

Erik nodded hearing that.

"We may have, but you have to see things with my eyes. The children were in danger. And you were doing nothing."

Dumbledore made a motion to rebuke, but Erik didn't let him talk.

"You were a man that had the power to do something. But you choose to wait. As Headmaster, you had the power of the entirety of Hogwarts to be your eyes, be them house-elves, portraits or even ghosts. You just needed to ask, and they would be alert to any strange behaviour. As Chief Warlock, you could have entered in contact with Director Bones, or even the Unspeakables, but you choose not to. As Supreme Mugwamp, you had access to a plethora of individuals with the most diverses knowledge in the entire world, but you chose not to contact them."

Erik said with some steel in his words. He continued.

"You had forty-five years to do something, and you didn't. Have you even talked with the ghost of Ms. Warren?"

Dumbledore didn't answer.

"It seems you didn't. If you had talked to her, you would know that her 'killer' had big yellow eyes, and that the entrance to the secret chamber was probably in the same bathroom where she died."

Dumbledore now was open mouthed while looking at Erik.

"You don't have to worry about it now. I sealed the bathroom, and at some point during this week or the next, my wives and I will investigate the chamber better. I remember Salazar saying something about his personal office being hidden…"

The last comment, Erik made to himself.

"You see, Mr. Dumbledore, information is a dangerous thing in the wrong hands, but if it is in the right ones, it is the most powerful weapon. For example, do you know what are the class 5 dark artifacts that we found in the castle yesternight?"

Dumbledore shook his head.

"No, I don't."

"Horcruxes. Both of them were Horcruxes pertaining to the same person."

"Tom Riddle's."

Dumbledore's voice trembled saying the name. He knew what the stuff was. He just couldn't have imagined in his wildest dreams that Voldemort had managed to craft the vile things.

'Oh, how low have you gone, Tom.'

"Exactly. The one found in the middle of a first year's stuff was the probable cause of the chamber's incident. And what was done with the thing? Is in the Unspeakables hands. With one of them in hand, they can track the rest and get rid of them permanently."

"But the prophecy…"

Dumbledore started to talk but stopped immediately. Erik stopped in his tracks, and slowly turned to face Dumbledore. They were in the middle of the Great Staircase, between the second and first floor.

"There. Is. A. Prophecy?"

Erik pausedly said. Dumbledore stood in silence.

"Of course there is a prophecy. There's always an effing prophecy. Apollo, I swear that I will get you and I will…"

*sigh*

Erick mumbled after Dumbledore's silence, and let out a sigh.

"Talk, Mr. Dumbledore."

Erik said to the old looking man. When he stood in silence again, Erik said.

"What I just said about information, Mr. Dumbledore."

This time was Dumbledore that let out a sigh and seemed to deflate with it.

*sigh*

"In the year of 1979, I witnessed a young seer give a prophecy about the end of the Dark Lord."

a/n: what I meant with the seed 'taking hold' is in the case of what happened in the cemetery in the 4th book of the series in accord with my theory, where Tom, already in his new body and with Harry's blood in him, touched the scar, weakening the protection and allowing the 'seed' to bypass part of Harry's mother protection. It's just a big 'IMO' case, not to be taken too seriously outside of this fanfic scenery.
