Prologue

There was always one question that lingered in my mind. What is the meaning of life and what is my purpose?

Simple questions to more complicated questions helped keep me in check considering I had much more time on my hands and although I've technically only served in the army for over two years, to me it does seem a lot longer.

I'm sure many would say the purpose of life is to spend time doing what you love and spending time with those you care about, but I find it hard to believe, at least for me anyways.

I find it hard to believe, considering a memory is only good if those around you are able to share it with you. Maybe I would've still tried to treasure those moments if I had known the reason for why I got to continue living while those around me had all died on the day that disaster had struck.

Others called it the "Seismic Pulse of 2054" because during that event every human alive had felt a large pulse that resounded throughout all corners of the world. Nutjobs simply considered it doomsday and saying they prophesied the day would come like every other so called prophet throughout all of history. Most of the public did come to a consensus through the media and called the disaster one thing.

Humanities Extinction.

Pretty ironic considering our species is still alive at the moment. That's not to say it doesn't live up to its name.

September 12 2054.

The first wave of asteroids were sent in which were most likely carrying the "guardians" that would protect the seven meteorites that descended into Earth. In total, the crystalized meteorites that had landed on all seven continents of the globe ended up killing one fourth of humanity.

As if that wasn't enough a third wave of asteroids fell into the Earth's atmosphere. This time the rocks contained thousands if not tens of thousands of micro organisms that had spread like a disease as soon as they touched the ground and while humanity was panicking, they didn't notice until the fifth day when the hatching process was much more evident that within the sack of blobs that surrounded the meteorites, contained alien type monsters that we now call Echos.

For the most part these so-called alien life form creatures were quadruped with slightly webbed feet and gills on their body. They could contract claws in and out at will and had a sharp arrow at the end of their tail.

The reason why we call them Echos is because when they communicated, they opened their mouths that covered their entire throats full of pointed knives and created an echo like sound that vibrated the environment near them.

Those creatures were the cause of 1.5 billion people dying over the last five years and the longer they remained, the stronger they would become which would eventually lead to the last person on Earth to drop dead.

Of course we wouldn't die without putting up a fight, but who would've guessed that it took the existence of one common enemy that could wipe out humanity's existence for every country and race to band together and form a worldwide military alliance.

I believed I was the hero of this world and the one who would save all of mankind because I had a power that no one else had.

I had the power to turn back time.

The only thing is I needed to fulfil one condition to use my abilities.

I needed to die.
